Retail Management

Walmart has had enormous success and growth since arriving in Canada. One of the reasons we've been able to achieve that level of success is the quality of leadership we have in our stores. Retail management is a fast-paced career filled with challenges and possibilities.

Store of Learning

In order to develop the skills necessary to manage a multi-million dollar store, Walmart Canada Corp has developed a program for our retail managers of the future called "Store of Learning". This eight-week program is the starting point for our future assistant and store managers. It provides our future leaders with invaluable store experience and classroom learning through hands-on experience, leadership development tools and the technical skills needed to manage various areas within our stores. In Store of Learning, you will learn the many facets of managing a retail store, such as merchandising, operations, inventory control, people management & development and the ins and outs of customer service. Once you've successfully completed our Store of Learning program, you'll be placed in one of our stores as an assistant manager.

Pharmacy

Being a Walmart Pharmacist means becoming a member of the Professional Healthcare Team within your community. As a team dedicated to the Health and Wellness of customers and associates, Walmart Pharmacists are committed to providing healthcare education, services and programs to promote positive health outcomes.

Health and Wellness Education Program
These monthly initiatives are comprised of a variety of disease/condition- specific pharmacist and patient support/education components. This program reinforces Walmart Pharmacy's dedication to the professional development of our Pharmacists and the ongoing healthcare educational support of our valued patients.

Certification Programs
Walmart Pharmacy has ongoing opportunities for our Pharmacists to become "experts" in specific disease states. Diabetes, Smoking Cessation and Asthma are a few of the programs available. There are province-specific opportunities to expand your scope of practice. In Alberta , Pharmacists are encouraged to acquire certifications in prescribing and administering immunizations, thus expanding their service offering to our customers and keeping them challenged in their role.

Community Clinic Library
Walmart strongly believes in giving back to the community, and the way we operate our Pharmacy is no different. Our Pharmacists are proud to be leaders in their profession for community events – Making A Difference! As a Walmart Pharmacist you will be provided with opportunities to educate our customers outside of the dispensary and within their own community settings. We have developed a library of presentations, covering numerous topics available for your use.

Continuing Education Conferences
Any success we have can be attributed to one thing – our people. Annually, all Pharmacists are invited to participate in our Professional Development Continuing Education weekend, a collaborative event partnering with our eye-care professionals.

Optical

Being a Walmart Optician means becoming a member of the Professional Healthcare Team within your community. As a team dedicated to the "Health and Wellness" of customers and associates, Walmart Opticians are committed to providing healthcare education, services and programs to promote positive health outcomes.

Health and Wellness Education Program
This program is comprised of a variety of eye disease and condition-specific support/education components directed at opticians and patients. Our aim is to reinforce Walmart Vision Centres' dedication to the professional development of our Opticians along with the ongoing eye health care educational support of our valued patients.

Community Outreach
Walmart strongly believes in giving back to the communities in which we operate and our Optical Division is no exception. Our Opticians are proud to be leaders in their profession for community events - "Making a Difference!" Walmart Vision Centres provide all of our Opticians with the opportunity to educate our customers outside of the store, within their own community settings.

Continuing Education Conferences
Any success we have can be attributed to one thing - our people. At Walmart, we provide continuing education for all of our Opticians. Annually, we offer our professional development continuing education weekend, a collaborative event partnering with our Pharmacy Professionals. This exciting weekend brings all our professional service providers together and provides you with the continuing education you deserve.

Career Opportunities
The sky’s the limit. As an Optician, the most common route to take is to advance first to Vision Centre Manager, then to Professional Services District Manager and then Regional Manager. As a staff Optician, you will have the opportunity to apply to other positions in the Optical division such as Pharmacy & Optical Systems Manager, Optical Strategic Manager, Talent Sourcing Manager or Optical Buyer. Having said this, we have had Opticians move into the Information Systems Department, People Division, and some have even become District Managers for Walmart Stores. There are plenty of opportunities to explore and meet your career goals within Walmart.
