Based on the autobiography by George and Anna Rose, "Room for One More" is a warm-hearted vehicle for husband-and-wife actors Cary Grant and Betsy Drake. Though she already has three children of her own, New Jersey housewife Anna Rose (Drake) adopts several kids born into less fortunate circumstances. Both Anna and her husband "Poppy" (Grant) must contend with the emotional baggage brought to their home by these "unwanted" kids, and both bear up quite well. The film's dramatic core concerns the Roses' efforts to reach a desperately unhappy 13-year-old girl (Iris Mann) and a physically handicapped boy with a penchant for getting into serious trouble (Clifford Tatum Jr). Room For One More

Based on the first of Kenneth Robeson's 181 adventure-packed "Doc Savage" books, "Doc Savage: The Man of Bronze" hits the screen with all its gee-whiz, gung-ho spirit intact. And its bold protagonist, who along with having a herculean body is also a surgeon, linguist and inventor, remains determined to do right to all and wrong to no one. Ron Ely (TV's "Tarzan") plays the strapping Savage in this high-camp, big-heroics tale of his trek into the Valley of the Vanished to confront the power-hungry Captain Seas (Paul Wexler). And behind the camera are pros who know how to get the most out of this entertainment bronze mine: veteran fantasy film producer George Pal ("The War of the Worlds", "The Time Machine") and director Michael Anderson ("Around the World in 80 Days", "Logan's Run").

Doc Savage: A Man Of Bronze

But it's Griffith's show all the way as he proves that when it comes to playing a deadly game, never underestimate laid-back, down-home and very able Abel Marsh.

Deadly Game

Among the harridans and hard-timers in a women's prison, one inmate stands out like a diamond in a box of tarnished costume jewelry. She's Mary Turner, convicted of a crime she didn't commit. Once an innocent shop girl, now embittered by three years in the pen, Mary has big plans after her release. First she'll make a fortune running scams that stay just within the law. Then she'll seek revenge on the man who put her behind bars by marrying his guileless son. Joan Crawford got one of her earliest solid dramatic roles in "Paid" ("Grand Hotel" was one year in the future), and she made the most of it. Her trenchant portrayal of Mary - tough and tender, smart and vulnerable - makes this version of the often-filmed story a standout.

One brave act and the spell is broken! The specter of Sir Simon de Canterville has haunted Canterville Castle for 300 years, ever since he was walled up alive for cowardice. A daring deed by a kinsman will free his spirit. Unfortunately, the Cantervilles are a timorous lot and Simon is out of luck. Then World War II GIs are billeted at the castle and among them is Canterville descendent Cuffy Williams. But could Cuffy be cursed with the family lily liver? Charles Laughton (as the ghost), Robert Young (as Cuffy) and Margaret O'Brien (as the castle's six-year-old current owner) conjure peals of merry laughter out of an exuberant, ingenious comedy based on an Oscar Wilde tale and cleverly directed by Jules Dassin ("Rififi", "Topkapi").
