Return Policy

If I buy something from Walmart, can I return it?

Yes (with just a few exceptions). We know that sometimes you buy something that doesn’t work out the way you had hoped, and for that reason we did our best to make a return policy that is helpful for you. Our return policy is the same for both online and in store purchases with just a few minor differences:

• Online purchases: the return timeframe begins on the date of your order’s arrival
• In-store purchases: the return timeframe begins on the purchase date. Make sure to bring along your proof of purchase.

Almost anything you buy from Walmart can be returned within 90 days with the exception of a few items below.

Exceptions

There are a few exceptions you should know about, which are listed below:

Within 14 days

Drones with GPS function, computers, tablets, laptops, monitors, printers, camcorders, digital cameras, portable video players, wearable tech, video game consoles and video game handhelds, GPS units, and wireless prepaid phones

For online purchases, the return timeframe begins on the date of your order’s arrival.

Within 15 days

Air mattresses, Contract postpaid phones*

For online purchases, the return timeframe begins on the date of your order’s arrival.

Within 30 days

Televisions, DVD players/recorders, home audio systems, telephones, MP3 players, tents, pools, prescription eyewear, air conditioners, outdoor power equipment**, full sized mattresses and large appliances***

For online purchases, the return timeframe begins on the date of your order’s arrival.

**All fuel powered equipment must be returned to the store, whether purchased in store or on Walmart.ca

***Full sized mattresses and large appliances purchased online cannot be returned to the store, please contact Customer Service at 1-800-328-0402 to make arrangement for the return.

Within 1 year

Trees and shrubs (product must be returned to store)

These items must be returned unopened:

Drones with GPS function, prerecorded music, movies, software products, computer/ video games, ink cartridges, boxes of disposable contact lenses, air mattresses and breast pumps.

These items must be returned in original packaging:

Any products containing gases, flammable liquids, flammable solids, oxidizers, corrosive materials or items containing poisonous or radioactive components. Example products include perfume and cologne, lighters and lighter fluid, paints and coatings, pool chemicals, pesticides, smoke detectors and muriatic acid.

Items that can only be returned to a Walmart store

Hazardous materials and dangerous goods. These would be items containing chemicals, compressed gases and liquids which could pose a health or safety risk. For example: Aerosol cans, household cleaners, fuel-powered equipment. If an item has been filled with fuel it cannot be returned by mail even if the tank is drained before shipping.

Items that cannot be returned to a Walmart store

Items bought online weighing over 100 pounds and jewellery with a total over $40 cannot be returned in stores. Please contact Customer Service at 1-800-328-0402 to make arrangements.

Sales are final:

Ammunition, fireworks, gift cards, prepaid phone cards, underwear, and pierced or personalized/engraved jewellery.  

Gift Card with Purchase Offers

If your purchase included a free gift card, the free gift card must also be returned unredeemed for the purchase to qualify for a refund.

What about children’s clothing and groceries? Can I return those products as well?

Absolutely! We want you to love what you bought, so we offer the following satisfaction guarantees for children’s clothing, exclusive brands to Walmart Canada and produce, meat and seafood (with only a few exceptions):

1. Children's clothing and footwear (excluding accessories): Wal-Mart Canada Corp.  guarantees that our children's clothing (sizes 0 – 16) and children’s footwear (Pre-walk / Toddler (sizes 0 – 10) and Youth (Boys sizes 11 – 13, 1 – 6 / Girls sizes 11 – 13, 1 – 4)) will not wear out before the child for whom it was purchased outgrows it. If the item does wear out, simply return it with your original confirmation of purchase to any Walmart Canada store and we'll replace it with an identical item of the same size. Excludes all accessories. If identical item is not available in identical size, Walmart will substitute a similar item of equal size and price.

2. Produce, bakery, deli, meat & seafood: 100% Satisfaction Guarantee. If you are not fully satisfied with the quality and freshness of the products you buy, simply bring it back with your receipt and we will gladly refund your purchase or replace your item.

3. Exclusive brands to Walmart (such as EQUATE, GREAT VALUE, OUR FINEST, PARENT’S CHOICE, YOUR FRESH MARKET). If you are not fully satisfied with your Walmart brand product, simply bring it back and we will gladly refund your purchase or replace your item, no receipt required.

Returning an Online Order

Can I return something I bought from Walmart.ca?

Sure thing! Just like shopping at a Walmart store, you can return almost anything you buy from our website. You can see the return options for your purchase in the Order Details page of your account, and if you checked out as a guest, you can find the return period for the item in the digital receipt, which is sent via email when your order ships. Before making a return, check our Return Policy to make sure the product is eligible.

Good to know: Along with the product, we will also refund any tax and environmental fee. We will also refund any associated shipping charge for defective products, or if you received the wrong item.

Please know that we will not refund shipping charges if the return is due to “Buyer’s Remorse”, or in other words, if you change mind about your purchase.

How do I return something I bought online?

here are two easy ways to return an online purchase:

  • Return any purchase to a Walmart store
  • OR
  • Return online purchases by mail

Returning an online purchase by mail is the easiest way to return a large or heavy item. Returning an online purchase is fast and easy, and you can get the ball rolling from your own home:

  1. Log in to your Walmart.ca account

  2. Choose the order from which you’d like to return an item, and click “Manage order”

  3. In the “Order Information” box, click “Return items”

  4. Choose whether you’d like to return a few individual items, or if you’d like to return everything in the order. Once you’ve selected the item(s) you’d like to return, scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Continue”.

  5. You’ll have the option to return these items to a store, or return your items by mail. Once you select your return method and click “Continue”, you’ll see instructions for how to complete the return process.

Good to know: If you decide to return something by mail, you can usually drop the item into any Canada Post mailbox. Larger items will be eligible for a “call tag”, which means someone will come to your house to pick up the item. In this case, the carrier will call you to arrange a pickup time. And one more thing — if you choose to return your purchase by mail, we’ll cover the shipping cost.

What if I don’t have an account? Can I still return my purchase by mail?

Of course! If you placed an order without an account, simply create a new account and attach your order. It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3!

Heads up: if you’re creating a new account with the intention of attaching an order, make sure to use the same email address you used to place your order.

  1. Create a Walmart.ca account

  2. Once you’re in your account, enter your order number in the section “Add a recent order”

  3. To return any items, follow the steps above for returning online purchases

And you’re done!

Along with being able to return items, having an account will allow you to save your orders in your order history for future reference, track the progress of any future orders, and print your shipping receipt.

Why isn’t my purchase eligible for a Self-Serve Return?

If you’re not able to complete a self-serve return online, it’s likely because the return period for the item has passed. Please be sure to read our Return Policy before trying to return an item.

Redeeming a Warranty

Is my product covered under a manufacturer's warranty?

A limited manufacturer's warranty is included free for certain categories of products, and may include an option to extend coverage up to 3 more years. When available on a specific product, extended coverage includes 100% of repair or replacement costs, including shipping costs for the exchange.

If you order extended warranties, you will receive information about fulfilling your warranty in a separate email, after the warranted item ships.

How do I make a claim against my manufacturer's warranty?

If something happens to your product and it is still covered under the manufacturer’s warranty, you can contact the manufacturer to make the claim. Their contact information should be included in the packaging, but if you can’t find it, or if you need any help making this claim, call our Customer Service at 1-800-328-0402 and they will gladly help you in any way they can.

How do I cover my product under a Walmart Extended Warranty Plan?

The Walmart Extended Warranty Plan is tied into the Walmart Rewards MasterCard, so to cover a product under the Plan, start by signing up for Walmart Rewards MasterCard. You can ask any associate at a Walmart checkout counter for an application, and if you have any questions or concerns about the application process, you can always call Customer Service at 1-800-328-0402. After you have received your credit card, you can enrol in the Extended Warranty Plan by calling 1-888-331-6133. How do I make a claim against my Walmart Extended Warranty Plan?

If you would like to make a claim, call the Administrator of the plan, The Canada Life Assurance Company, toll-free at 1-866-995-8705, Monday-Friday between 8:00am and 6:00 pm E.S.T.

Will my product be fixed, replaced, or refunded?

On a per claim basis, the Cardholder is entitled to receive from the Plan Provider the least of the following benefits:

  • the cost of repairs;
  • the actual cash value of the purchased item immediately prior to the loss;
  • the replacement cost of the purchased item; or
  • the purchase price of the purchase item.

Can I return something I bought at a Walmart store?

How do I return something I bought online?

Easy! If you do not have your eCommerce packing slip and/or email confirmation, you will need to provide your name, email address, and/or order number, so the store can verify the order information with Customer Service. 

2. Return online purchases by mail.

If you would like to return an item purchased on Walmart.ca by mail, please call Customer Service at 1-800-328-0402. We will email you a returns shipping label (with instructions) that you can print out and stick to the box. Please pack your item carefully, along with all original packing materials, accessories, and the original packing slip and/or email confirmation. Once the item has been received back to Walmart, refunds will be issued to your original method of payment and will appear on your account within two billing cycles.

Usually, you can drop the item in the mail at any Canada Post mailbox. Larger items will be eligible for a “call tag”, which means someone will come to your house to pick up the item.
