Minne tells Granny that Betty’s maiden name was Preston and later Granny and Vera confront a shocked Betty and tell her the secret is safe with them. Rita is certain that Bet and Len won’t last long. Len refuses to commit himself to Bet; he just wants her at the moment and for the occasional one-night-stand. Len let’s a hysterical Lynne stay at No. 9. When he tries to go to work, she begs him not to leave her alone. Suddenly, Albert overhears a woman screaming from No. 9 and after returning from work, Jerry and Ray find Lynne dead. The police investigate the scene and take the trio in for questioning. Annie turns in for the night unaware that two youths, Les and Neil, are hiding in her home. As she slept, they ransacked her living quarters looking for valuables. When Annie awakes to find the two youths in her bedroom, she refuses to cooperate, not telling them where her money is.
