Sony Classical is proud to release the "Summer Night Concert 2014" with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Christoph Eschenbach and featuring guest soloist, world renowned pianist, Lang Lang. This annual open-air event has been held since 2008 on the park grounds of the Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna, Austria. Recorded live on May 29, 2014 in celebration of the 150th birthday of Richard Strauss, the program features two works by Strauss, the "Burlesque for Piano and Orchestra in D Minor" and "Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks, Op. 28." Strauss conducted the Vienna Philharmonic more than 100 times and in 1924 composed the Vienna Philharmonic Fanfare, which has opened the annual Vienna Philharmonic Ball since that time. This year's "Summer Night Concert" was conducted by Christoph Eschenbach who is one of the most distinguished musicians of our time. Eschenbach is in great demand as a guest conductor for prominent orchestras and opera houses worldwide. Since 2010 he has been musical director of the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, DC. Eschenbach is joined by classical piano superstar, Lang Lang, who performs as a guest soloist on the Strauss "Burlesque for Piano and Orchestra in D Minor." With the UNESCO World Heritage setting of the Baroque park of Schönbrunn Palace as the backdrop, the "Summer Night Concert" adds stunning visuals to the superb musical program.
