Rated 2 out of 5 by from It ought to be about simplicity As a 40+ year old Lego enthusiast, I had the privilige of owning the early train Lego sets of the 80s. I really loved how you could easily power up a train track in a centrally managed way with easy switches and built-in functions for manipulating switch tracks. I must say that today's out-of-the-box functionality falls far short of its great predecessor. To get any form of fun track functioning, you not only need to get a boat-load of motors, battery packs, IR-receivers, IR remote controls and so on and so forth to be able to manipulate even a single switch. The cost mounts very quickly and I fail to see the value for money here. What is even more annoying is that there is no "simple" way to power these switches. No official instructions are available. No kits are for sale for this purpose and so on. Another great downside to today's Lego Train is the amount of batteries you need instead of having everything hooked up to mains. I must say that the fun in Lego Train has taken a great leap backwards from the 1980s.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice to have Extra tracks Recently purchased both the Cargo Train and Heavy Hauler Train. Enjoy both very much. It is very nice that Lego sells two types of additional extra railroad track pieces/sets. I combined the 2 sets plus these extra pieces to make a larger set up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome set of Tracks! We bought these to go with a set of straight train tracks and a set of Flexible Tracks (which are also awesome!). My only problem turned out to be that we didn't consider that the number of track pieces we purchased limited the size of the track he was able to build. I thought the switching track would connect with the amount we bought. The boxes the tracks come in have great instructions on how to build tracks, but I didn't notice this on the website when I order the sets...otherwise I would have bought 2 or 3 as suggested. So, right now, the Hogwarts Train has to back up after driving up the one section of switching track or it will crash. On the upside, now he has something to save allowance for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply a Must-have The title says it all: this set is a must-have for the person who wants their trains to do something other than go round in circles (pun intended). I'm very glad that these switching tracks are included in the cargo train sets. The yellow handle seems a bit flimsy, but so far I haven't broken any, so I assume appearances can be deceiving.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great addition to your Pass Train These are a really neat feature in conjunction with the Train Station and High Speed Pass Train. Gives you the option for a divided track to pull into the station. Ultra easy to use, super neat, work great. Definitely a must for the 'cool' factor.
