Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Dream Car Ever since I saw my first Mini at an antique car show, I was hooked. Then I notice that Lego has one in my favorite color? I had to build it. Overall a very nice build that most people could do in an afternoon. It is nice to see that the engine was mounted transversely. A detail some might overlook that gave the original Mini its massive cabin. Being able to set up a Lego picnic after a morning cruise is a nice touch that could have just as easily been forgotten. As for things forgotten, an actual spare tire has been replaced in many cars, but not this Mini. I also thought that, since I am an US citizen, my Mini should be left hand drive. The swap was very easily achieved even if the instructions told me to make it right hand drive. I do have a few nits to pick though. The front windshield, while acceptable as a model piece, has some slop that means the kids will get pushed away from this build. The roof has a few sharp angles that, while trademark Lego, might leave some hard core model builders passing this up. On the side of the body, some of the printed pin striping doesn't quite match up. Not enough to throw off the aesthetic, but enough to notice. To me, the most grievous omission is the cabin floor. The plates stop a stud away from the door. I took a few plates and filled them in and I know the old real life Minis were not luxury vehicles, but this seems like an oversight. Overall, this is a fantastic build. I think this would keep a teenager engaged for an afternoon and it give me a very enjoyable two hours. This will be proudly displayed on my bookshelf. Thank you Lego for a wonderful model.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Simply Awesome I have been eye balling this set for a long time, every time I go walk into the lego store with my kids. I watched my wife give me the evil eye, like dont you dare by that for yourself. Well, one day I walked in and picked it up. Really nice set, My wife saw it on my work desk and thought it was amazing. She liked the picnic basket set. Happy with the purchase. Still, it was missing parts. ....

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Beautiful Collector's Set I'm not one to repeat what others have already said about a set, but this is absolutely amazing! It's sleek, and built like you wouldn't expect it either. Let me explain. When I was on bag number 3 and I still had the hood, headlights, doors, windows, and tires still left to do, I thought "there's no way it's going to turn out decent". Boy, was I wrong! It came together quite nicely. The picnic basket and accessories is a very nice touch, something I wish LEGO had done with the Camper Van. There are two things that I have a problem with, one major, and one minor. The minor one is that the engine isn't as detailed as the description says. Now, I am sadly not the owner of a 1999 green Mini Cooper, but after having the expertly detailed VW Camper Bus's engine, it seems like a step backwards. And the color choice is strange. Why red? Again, I'm not a MINI expert, but it seems like such an odd choice as to why it is that color. The biggest problem with the engine is that it's just so....simple. There's nothing about it that really wow's me. It's just a few bricks put in a thin rectangle and stuffed under the hood. Maybe I'm looking too much into this, but to me, at least, it's a little underwhelming. Now for the major problem I have with this set: the roof. The roof is so flimsy and delicate that it really takes away from the beauty of the set overall. Only two open studs hold the roof to the car so it can just fall off whenever it feels like it. Also, the windshield isn't very sturdy so you have to tilt it awkwardly if you want the roof to line up with it. All in all, it was just so disappointing to see this lovely set be sidelined by something as simple as the roof! If it was better, this set would be 5 bricks, but sadly I just can't give it a perfect score. Enough blabbering from me, here are the pro's and con's. Pro's: -overall design -seats -picnic basket and accessories -door handles (great idea using the hockey skates as door handles. Genius!) -stick shift and brake handle (great attention to detail) -tire and hubcap design Con's -roof -engine design -stickers (this is perhaps another of the biggest gripes I have with the set. I mean WHY would you include stickers in such a nice set?!) -the steering wheel is basically touching the driver side seat, making that par at least seem a little unrealistic. -the spare tire is a little hard to get to but nothing to cry over. In conclusion, don't let the con's outweigh the pro's for this one. The MINI is a fantastic set and it would be perfect in anyone's collection!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sooper Dooper Mini Cooper I built this about 2 years ago and it was really fun to build. Lego did a really good job at making it look really realistic. I like how they added the picnic basket and blanket. The trunk of the car is oddly spacious. I know that people who are buying a Lego set don't really care if the trunk is spacious but I still think it is pretty neat how Lego was able to make it so big and lifelike without compromising any structural stability. I didn't notice this at first, but after reading some of the other reviews I did notice that the roof is misaligned with the windshield. Not a big deal but the roof comes off almost too easily. Overall, it was definitely a good purchase and I am very happy with how it turned out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beauty... A very satisfying model to build. Loved the fact that it had all the minutest details: from the door handles to the air conditioner vents. Building this model was the perfect way to de-stress after a long day.
