Rated 4 out of 5 by from For The Minifigs As someone else already said, the main reason to get this set is for the mini-figures. 2 Sandtroopers, C3PO, and R2D2, in one set, excellent. The vehicles are nothing spectacular, they're very easy to build with few pieces, and the play value of both isn't longlasting. Get this set if you want a quick Lego build and for the 2 awesome Stormtrooper minifigs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lego Star Wars: Droid Escape 9490 Very good set, it was my first ever Lego Star Wars set, along with 9489 Endor Rebel Trooper & Imperial Trooper Battle Pack. So it's a very good starter set, it got me into getting more Star Wars sets. Very good minifigures: C-3PO, R2D2 and 2 Sandtroopers, good markings on the minifigures, I quite like the little cloaks the Sandtroopers have. As usual, very good C-3PO and R2D2. The Sandtrooper's hover bike and the escape pod are very good, good stable builds. The only thing is the stickers, they are quite tricky to put on, especially as they are to be put on curved/round pieces. I think that Lego should print the markings on the pieces instead of having stickers. Overall, excellent Lego Star Wars set!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from "We're doomed" Great little set, fun to play with and needed in your collection. Aside from artoo, all of the figures here are upgraded to give a look more accurate to the films. The sandtroopers now have the markings to show their dirty armor and I like how there pauldrons help differentiate the rank. C-3P0 has been given a great upgrade as well. The figures are must haves for original trilogy fans. Unlike all the other attempts Lego have made in the past regarding escape pods, finally we get the definitive version of the escape pod. This set marks a major leap in design. It's larger than the ones in the past and is able to accompany a greater passenger load. This escape pod alone makes this set worth the purchase. I also enjoy the speeder bike as well Verdict: It's been 11 years since we gotten the last droid escape. You can some iconic figures and a fun escape pod. The price is very fair for what you get. Go ahead, buy it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Droid Escape I must say, I had long given up hope that C-3PO and R2 would ever change from their respective details and positions, yet indeed here they are. Like most medium sized sets, this set consists of two parts and the minifigures. ESCAPE POD: The overall design of this is the same as the Republic Frigate's, just backwards. The two halves limit you from much building in this section, but I say that's just as well. I personally would not want to make up an entire piece by piece build for a semi round vehicle like this. Anyway, it has room for both droids inside(but mind you, not much else) and as previously stated, is mostly an add on type of build. SPEEDER BIKE: The speeder sort of bummed me out. I'm an Ewok fan, and as such have all five current Ewoks, but also three speeder bikes. What I would have really preferred is one of the giant lizards for the sandtroopers to ride instead. But, on the optimistic side, the speeder's build is simple and solid. It's really one of the full bikes just squinched up in the front. It contains room to hold two blasters and a seat for one of the troops. Overall, I would have preferred the lizard, but this is fine. MINIFIGURES: As most medium sized sets do, four minifigures are included as follows. -C-3PO: This minifigure has been completely revolutionized from its past version. The torso detail has been tremendously improved and now shows wiring were needed and more specific lining. The head is much the same, yet this time the eyes have and extra little glint to them. The legs are now printed, and also carry extra details. Overall, this minifigure is part of what got me excited. If you happen to be new to LEGO and don't yet have a C-3PO, then this is what to get. -R2-D2: This is just your regular R2, but I honestly don't think he needs improvement. He has his cylinder torso with printed details and connectable legs, and a half-oval head with his face linings and colorings. Standard, but good to be sure. SANDTROOPERS: The sandtroopers are also drastically changed. On the inside, they have faces in their black body socks. On the outside, they have the regular backpacks, and newly printed pauldrons, one white the other orange. Their helmets, torsos, and legs are printed with exact linings of stormtrooper armour, and on top of that spots of dust every other spot. One holds a rifle and a small silver stud (look, they're droids) and the other a standard blaster. Overall, these sandtroopers are beyond what you could ask for in detail and a great addition. OVERALL: This set is a mix of playability and display, though it probably leans toward the first a bit more. It has much improved the droids and the Imperials, enough that the minifigures alone are worth it. The only con in this set is that a speeder bike is a bit old fashioned. I might would suggest a remake of the Mos Eisley Cantina, and perhaps we can see a lizard then. I give this set a 4/5.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Look sir, droids! A wonderful set, with wonderful minifigures. The minifig assortment is accurate to the movie, and the new Sandtroopers are a must-have. C-3P0 has been successfully redesigned, he now features more detail, and back printing. R2-D2 is one of the fairly new versions, with an entirely silver-molded head and improved printing. Both Sandtroopers have leg and back printing, printed faces, and nicely made backpacks. The Sandtroopers have "dirt" printed on them to look more like the movie characters, something previous versions lacked. They both have shoulder pauldrons, one white and one orange, also with improved printing. The pod itself is sturdy and accurate. Although I don't like the stickers, they give it needed detail. The pod can fit both droids comfortably, and strongly resembles the movie version. It has pegs to keep the top from falling off. The speeder is a nice little accessory that adds significant play value to the set. PROS: New, redesigned R2 and 3PO New Sandtroopers Desert Speeder vehicle Sturdy and accurate pod CONS: Stickers This set is something that takes me back to the older sets, and stands out from modern sets due to it's great play/display value, wonderful minifigs, and a great scene not captured by lego in over 10 years (I think, if not somewhere around that), so go and get it now!
