Description & Features+

The Mongoose Terrex is the new deal in mountain bikes. The old 26-inch wheel size was great but you really always wanted a little bigger wheel but might have been intimidated by the big old 29ers. Well, fret no more! Mongoose has the answer to your problems with a 27.5-inch wheel size. Not only does it have the larger wheel, it also has a larger chubby tire that will make it feel like you are floating on air. Like a kick ball, you will bounce over bumps and cruise happy on snow or super-rugged terrain. The Terrex is loaded with features like 21 speeds, dual front and rear disc brakes, front suspension fork, alloy rims, steel classic mountain style frame and of course those thick knobby tires that will float you like a butterfly. There is nothing you can't do on a Mongoose.
• Steel mountain style frame with front suspension fork
• 21-speed twist shifters
• Alloy rims with wide 2.8" knobby tire
• Front and rear disc brakes

Ratings & Reviews+

Mongoose 27.5 Inch Mens Terrex Mountain Bike is rated 3.6977 out of 5 by 43.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dangerous if used for MTB One of my nephews from out of province came out camping with us late in the summer. We have mountains in BC and we ride trails on them. He is a good rider but had only used this as his townie bike in AB for a few weeks. He hit a nice little roller that we jumped on our bikes quite easily, his skill and form were spot on, but there is no damping in the "suspension" and he landed and did a pogo stick like bounce into a tree. One broken wrist, and he and his family now know why you don't buy bikes like these for anything other than flat ground. These are NOT mountain bikes, they just look like them. These are townie bikes, keep them off anything but flat ground or open spaces where things are easily handled.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Shop Arround My husband bought this bike 4 months ago, to ride to work. Things came up, and he wasn't able to use it for its intended purpose. He ended up riding around the neighborhood with our 7 year old daughter a dozen or so times. No hills. No rough terrain. On the last ride the derailer busted in a spectacular way. Take your time and shop around. This bike is NOT going to hold a larger guy. My husband is 250 lbs, but I DID check with the manufacturer's feedback on other customer inquiries, to make sure this was an acceptable weight before purchasing. I don't know if it was that, or that the product is flimsy, but our experience was not good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You can't beat it for the price!!! I'll keep this short. Fantastic bike for the price! I researched online for months before ordering the Terrex sight unseen, I had it assembled at a pro bike shop, crossed my fingers and now I'm very happy! It rides smooth, looks beautiful and it's not too heavy. The only issues were... 1. The crank got wobbly after the first ride so I had to go back to the bike shop. He tightened down it and said it should be fine now. Make sure you check that right out of the box. 2. The grips were very short and I kept accidentally knocking the gears out of wack, I found some nice longer lock-on grips on eBay... best $2 I ever spent! 3. Before I even got the bike I got the classic Schwinn comfort seat... I wouldn't even consider the stock seat under my tender bum. 4. The tire tread has a kind of square-ish profile so I don't feel that confident making tight turns on the street, but it wasn't designed for that so I'll just have to be careful. I'm currently looking at the Schwalbe Super Moto-X 27.5 x 2.8, they look perfect for the street and not too expensive. That's it. Overall, it's awesome bike! Get one!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bike for the money. Thought that I would wait a few days before writing my review. I purchased the bike on-line. Had a few difficulties trying to find the bike at my local Wal-Mart. After checking five different stores in the Southern California area, I went with the on-line option. Assembly wasn't too bad. The bike came assembled with the exception of the handle bars, pedals, and front wheel. The tires were already inflated. Took a few hours to assemble but was not that difficult and I wasn't in a great hurry. Only needed a few hand tools such as an adjustable wrench, Allen wrench, and Phillips screwdriver. I also checked all of the other fasteners to make sure they were tight. I choose this bike primarily due to the tire size. I weigh around 310 pounds and thought that the tires would support my weight better than other smaller tire bikes. After two rides, one at 6 miles and the other at 12.5 miles I am very satisfied with the performance of the bike. The rides were on level asphalt roads so I cannot speak to performance on dirt, sand, or rocks. The brakes do make some noise but this should go away in time after they are worn in. The tire pressure for this bike is not high due to the tire size although it probably will take a long time to fill the tires if empty with a small hand pump. Overall, I would say that this bike is a great deal and would recommend it to others.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mongoose terrex I purchased this bike for my birthday as I needed something reliable to get around Cheyenne, WY. The fat tires and sturdiness of the frame are great for getting around in winter weather with safety in mind. There are a few minor modifications I would like to make regarding the bearings and I have heard a few poor reviews about the derailleur system, although I have not encountered any problems at all with mine. So far the only thing that I did not like about the bike are the stickers ( I prefer my bike to have a stealthy, subdued appearance, cosmetically). Even so, the stickers came off very easily and I am very happy with the bikes appearance. It has great lines. Being a pretty critical person, I was hard pressed to find anything negative to say about the terrex. Even the weight of the bike, although heavy is still very manageable and benefits the overall stability and traction of the bike on unstable terrain like sand, snow, and ice. I am very happy with this purchase and would definitely but this bike again
