Description & Features+

Induction cooking is an amazing technology used for decades in Canadian restaurants and commercial kitchens. Induction cooking is completely different from all other cooking technologies. It allows you to adjust the cooking heat instantly and with great precision, much like a gas burner, but with even more accuracy and without open flames. Conventional cooking methods involve generating heat which is then transferred to the cookware. Induction makes the cookware the original generator of the heat resulting in faster, safer, cleaner and more energy efficient cooking.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Induction Cooker Bought it to introduce myself to induction cooking ... and it rocks. Great set of controls, love the timer feature and it stays cool through the cooking. I've stopped using my regular stove top ever since I acquired the Salton. And, of course, the price is outrageously low!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product This cooker does its job well. I tried 3 other manufacturers, none of which performed like this Salton product If a metal is ferrous, a magnet will stick to it. Induction cooking requires ferrous cookware. We.found plenty of ferrous pots and pans at thrift stores, very inexpenive, and all work well. Heating is very fast, faster than GAS or electric! Unit can be set to hold a temperature you desire, or to heat as if it were a stove burner. It works very well with my 14" Lodge wok, a heavy piece of equipment. It's amazing with cast iron frying pans, also. It does not heat up the kitchen because only the pan and the food get hot. You can put a dry paper towel on the cook surface, put your pan on top of the towel, cook your meal, without damage to the paper towel! Amazing. Does well as a slow cooker, holding 175 or 250 for hours on end. I'm surprised no one has done any marketing on these cookers, so I'm doing my best with this review. Get one - you'll love it!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Induction Cooker short on precision I was looking for an induction cook top to try out since I watched an infomercial on the Nuwave PIC. But, I never want to order from an infomercial since I think they are a lot of smoke and mirrors. Although, they are available at Showcare stores, but were very expensive. So I searched the net to find a store that sold something similar to the Nuwave and this brought me to the Walmart website. I found that they were in-stock at a store near me and I picked one up after work. What I didn't like about this model (ID1293) is the intervals between the temperature settings were too large. I don't call this precision. The Nuwave claims precision at 10F degree intervals. This product has a 75F degree interval. It didn't give me much more control then my electric stove. I read that water boils at a faster rate on an induction. Well, not on this one. My electric stove was just as fast and I used the pot that came with it. Also, my big concern is with the actual safety of induction. After researching on the internet, some studies suggest distancing yourself from the cooker due to the electromagnetic frequencies they send off. Some say it is safe. But, for the lack of precision and the noisy fan I returned it back after only a week. I don't want to take a chance on my health.
