There are two forms of energy: potential and kinetic energy. Potential energy is stored energy. Kinetic energy is energy of motion. There are also multiple forms of kinetic energy: radiant, thermal, sound, electrical and mechanical. These forms of energy help us to carry out every aspect of our lives. From seeing the sun in the morning, to saying hello, to playing, we use energy. The rubber band car works by utilizing potential energy and mechanical kinetic energy. Once constructed, your child can propel the car in different directions. Your child will discover the power in potential energy while winding up the rubber bands. Once released, they can watch kinetic energy in action. Encourage your child to try different methods of putting the car into motion to see which way allows the car to go the fastest, or last the longest.
