Sensitive Skin Routine 101

Sometimes natural beauty takes a bit of work — especially with sensitive skin. A daily routine is important to maintaining and improving your skin health. So many factors come into play like nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress level, among others. Beauty starts beyond skin deep. One thing that you can do is get into a routine that suits you and your sensitive skin. It’s easy to do, and only takes a few minutes every morning and night.
 

Step 1: Wake up with a gentle cleanser

Start your day with a soothing cleanser formulated for sensitive skin. Cleansers come in foams and gels.
  1. Wash and dry your hands.
  2. Wet your face with warm water.
  3. Pump two pumps of the cleanser of your choice in the palm of your hands and rub your hands together.
  4. Apply the cleanser to your face with your hands. Gently rub your fingers in a circular motion on your face.
  5. Rinse off the cleanser by splashing water onto your face and dabbing dry with a clean towel.
Using products with certain ingredients can dry out and aggravate sensitive skin, so it’s important to look for products that are gentle and specially formulated for sensitive skin. Reading product reviews and forums online can help with questions that are specific to your concerns. Key words to look for in a product are: fragrance-free, soap-free, non-comedogenic (doesn’t clog pores) and hypoallergenic (less likely to cause allergic reactions).

Step 2: Balance your skin with a daily moisturizer

After using a gentle cleanser, use an oil-free, hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic moisturizer with SPF 15 or 30. An effective moisturizer with naturally derived ingredients will help rebalance your skin, reduce the look of redness, and protect it from the harmful rays of the sun to help keep your skin smooth, healthy looking and naturally soft. Once you have washed and dry-patted your face, apply the moisturizer in a circular motion to your entire face, being careful to avoid your eyes. 

Step 3: Wash the day off your face

At the end of the day, wipe off anything that can easily irritate sensitive skin, like makeup, oil, and dirt. Use gentle makeup removal wipes that are specifically made for sensitive skin for a quick and easy clean. Next, splash your face with warm water to get rid of any cleansing residue, and then pat dry with a clean towel. Lastly, use a moisturizer to replenish your skin.
