Children’s Miracle Network is a non-profit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for 14 children’s hospitals in Canada. Each year, Children's Miracle Network member hospitals create miracles by providing the finest medical care, life-saving research and preventative education to help millions of kids overcome diseases and injuries of every kind. Walmart Canada is the top supporter of Children’s Miracle Network, donating and raising funds for Canadian children’s hospitals throughnumerous initiatives including the sale of miracle balloons, corporate matching grants, and the Walmart Walk for Miracles.
Research has shown children who eat a nutritious breakfast before school benefit from improved attendance and punctuality, improved behaviour and concentration, and display improved social skills and greater confidence to interact with children and adults. Breakfast Club of Canada is a national non-profit organization dedicated to providing services and funding to school breakfast programs. Breakfast Club of Canada provides more than 20 million breakfasts across the country; feeding more than 145,000 children annually. The Canadian Red Cross’ mission is to improve the lives of vulnerable people by mobilizing the power of humanity in Canada and around the world. In 2010, Walmart Canada opened one of North America’s most energy-efficient fresh food distribution centres, in Balzac, Alberta, just outside of Calgary. The facility is a living lab of sustainability and includes the company’s first pilots of hydrogen fuel cells, solar thermal and wind power, as well as many other sustainability features and products.
Evergreen is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to making cities more livable through local, sustainable greening projects in schoolyards, parks and communities across Canada. Walmart-Evergreen Green Grants is a Canadian community greening program sponsored by Walmart Canada and led by Evergreen. The program provides funding to create greener, healthier communities through stewardship and restoration, community development, and community food projects across Canada. Since 2005, Walmart-Evergreen Green Grants have supported over 550 community groups across the country, and engaged more than 45,460 dedicated volunteers.
