We’ve partnered with environmental consultants, non-profit organizations and other groups to help us achieve our Sustainability goals. These partnerships strengthen our environmental commitment and enable us to grow responsibly and intelligently.

Supporting the Environment across Canada

In designing our community initiatives, we found the ideal partner in Evergreen, a national non-profit group with experience in bringing nature to Canadian cities through naturalization projects.

Walmart – Evergreen Green Grants

• Launched in 2005, Green Grants is our national initiative to support local efforts to create greener, healthier communities.
• Groups restoring habitats or creating dynamic community gardens are invited to submit an application for funding and support.
• The grant covers up to 50% of the project costs, to a maximum of $10,000.
• Since the launch of the program, we’ve contributed over $1.3 million to almost 200 community naturalization initiatives across Canada.
• In 2006, we extended our agreement with Evergreen to continue the Green Grants program for an additional 5 years, with a financial commitment of $2.5 million.

Evergreen Learning Grounds Program

• Teaching the next generation about the importance of protecting our natural world.
• Our support of Evergreen’s Learning Grounds Program helps Evergreen transform barren school yards into exciting natural outdoor classrooms, giving kids a safe and healthy place to discover, learn and play.
• 2009 will mark our sixth year of support for this program.
