Together with our suppliers and customers, we’re setting out to raise and donate enough funds to secure 10 million meals through the Fight Hunger, Spark Change program in 2023.Walmart Canada is making a $1 million corporate donation to Food Banks Canada.
Diego and his family moved to Vancouver from South America for a better life. The city's high cost of living made it hard to make ends meet. To help families like Diego, Food Banks Canada supports Greater Vancouver Food Bank.
"I'm so grateful to the Food Bank. We just don't have enough money to buy healthy groceries. I really appreciate the fresh veggies and protein I get every week," says Diego.
Every month, around 2000 people from Whitehorse receive an emergency food hamper. The Executive Director of the Whitehorse Food Bank, Dave Blottner explains, "Food security is unfortunately a regular issue...we provide emergency food assistance to an area that extends beyond a 700-kilometre radius (of Whitehorse)."Food Banks Canada continues to provide much-needed financial and food relief to the Whitehorse Food Bank. Food Banks Canada's support is the "difference between staying open or closing our doors; it's that simple," expresses Dave.
Rob, a client and volunteer of Harvest Manitoba, suffered a stroke at 33 years old, leaving him unable to work. "If you need help, don't be shy to ask for help from anybody; that's what they're there for," says Rob. Harvest Manitoba distributes food to more than 360 food banks and agencies in Canada's central region. Part of its mission is to provide client-centred, long-term solutions for food insecurity.

Supplier Contributions:
From February 16 to March 15, participating suppliers will donate to Food Banks Canada as a part of their participation in the Fight hunger. Spark change. campaign. Participating suppliers are Coca-Cola, Conagra, Ferrero, General Mills, Kellogg’s, KraftHeinz, Mars, Dare Foods, Mondelez, PepsiCo, Unilever, Campbell’s, and Maple Leaf. Maximum contribution from suppliers is $1.2M.
Customer Contributions:
From February 16 to March 15, Walmart customers can round up their purchases at the register to the nearest dollar. A customer’s round up amount will be contributed to Food Bank Canada’s local food bank partners.
Food Donations:
Stores will be accepting non-perishable food donations for local food banks. Donation bins can be found at the front of each store.
Goal (Meals):
Goal is based on total supplier, customer, and Walmart contributions received during the Fight hunger. Spark change. campaign. The approximate cost to Food Banks Canada to secure a meal for those in need is $0.50. Goal is an estimate based on available data.
