Kids Bikes FAQs
What size kids bike should I buy?
Kids bikes are commonly sized by wheel size (12”, 14”, 16”, 20”, 24”). The best fit allows your child to sit comfortably and control the bike confidently. Many parents use a combination of height + inseam to choose the right size. A properly sized kids bike is safer and easier to learn on than a bike they’ll “grow into.”
Balance bike vs training wheels — which is better?
A balance bike teaches steering and balance first, which often makes the transition to a pedal bike faster and smoother. Training wheels can help with pedaling but don’t teach balance as effectively. If your child is just starting, a balance bike is usually the easiest path to independent riding.
When should a child switch to a bigger bike?
Your child may need a bigger bike when the seat is at max height and they still feel cramped, or when their knees feel too bent while pedaling. Another sign is struggling to maintain control because the bike feels “small” under them. A correctly sized bike helps with comfort, safety, and confidence.
What safety gear does my child need for biking?
At minimum: a properly fitted kids bike helmet. Depending on where they ride, add closed-toe shoes, and consider knee/elbow pads for beginners. For riding near roads or in low light, add a rear light and bright/reflective clothing for visibility.
