Question 1

What do I need for Halloween this year?

Accepted Answer

Costumes, decorations, treats and party supplies, roughly in that order. Indoors, cobwebs, Halloween lights, wreaths, hanging decor, and window clings do most of the work. Outdoors, lit pumpkins, tombstones and animated figures make the house visible from the street, and a fog machine adds atmosphere to a porch or driveway. For a party, plan the food and a playlist, then add themed tableware, games, and a costume contest. Stock up on candy and treat bags last, since those are easy to top up.

Question 2

What is the difference between indoor and outdoor Halloween decorations?

Accepted Answer

Outdoor pieces are built for weather and scale; indoor pieces for detail. Outdoor Halloween decorations include inflatables, lit pumpkins, tombstones, pathway markers, and animated figures, all rated for exterior use and usually visible from the street. Indoor decorations run smaller and closer up: cobwebs, hanging ghosts, window clings, wreaths and table pieces. Check the rating before moving anything outside, particularly anything with a plug, since indoor-only items are not sealed against moisture.

Question 3

What is in a pumpkin carving kit?

Accepted Answer

A basic kit has a serrated saw for cutting the lid, a scoop for clearing the inside, and a small poker or drill for detail work. Most include paper stencils you tape on and trace through. Larger kits add finer blades and more designs. You will also want a bowl for the seeds and pulp, a marker for drawing the shape first, and a battery tea light rather than a candle if the pumpkin is going somewhere it can be knocked over.

Question 4

How much Halloween candy do I need for trick-or-treaters?

Accepted Answer

Work back from how many callers you usually get. Two or three small pieces per child is standard, so 50 visitors means roughly 120 to 150 pieces, which is two to three large bags of fun-size bars. Busy streets and mild weather push the number up. Buy a mix so you are covering different preferences, and keep some non-candy options like stickers or glow sticks for anyone who cannot have chocolate. Treat bags make handing it out faster.
