At this time, participating Walmart Pharmacies are offering appointments for pharmacist assessments for specific minor ailments. Customers living in Saskatchewan, Ontario and Prince Edward Island can schedule an appointment online by clicking on their respective province above. Customers living in Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Nova Scotia can call their local Walmart Pharmacy to book an appointment. Appointments are subject to provincial eligibility. No. Individuals are not required to be a patient of Walmart Pharmacy in order to receive a pharmacist assessment for a minor ailment.

You will be required to complete a consent form prior to receiving an assessment for a minor ailment. Please bring your provincial health card (if applicable) to your appointment. The pharmacist will perform an assessment that involves asking a series of questions to determine a recommendation. Following the assessment, the pharmacist will determine what therapy, if any, is required (prescription or over-the-counter medication) or refer you to a primary care physician as required.

During the assessment, our pharmacist will work with you to determine an appropriate timeline for follow-up based on the desired treatment outcome. Should you have questions or concerns before the scheduled follow up, you can call your pharmacist. Following the assessment, your pharmacist will notify your primary care provider of the outcome(if applicable).

Currently, the provincial government is providing pharmacist assessments for minor ailments at no cost to the patient in Saskatchewan, Ontario, and Prince Edward Island. A fee for service may apply in other provinces where pharmacists have the authority to provide assessments. Pharmacists may authorize a prescription following a minor ailment assessment (if applicable). Prescription fee(s) may apply.

No. Pharmacists have authority to prescribe certain medications under their provincial scope of practice. Pharmacists are not permitted to prescribe narcotics, controlled drugs, or targeted substances.

Yes. If you don’t have a primary care provider you can still receive a pharmacist assessment for a minor ailment provided that the condition you are presenting with is within the pharmacist‘s scope of practice. The pharmacist will retain the records of your minor ailment assessment and at your request provide additional details to your primary care provider.
