The 3M™ Aqua-Pure™ Whole House Sanitary Quick Change Replacement Filter Cartridge AP917HD-S filter reduces sediment and chlorine taste &amp; odor along with providing scale inhibition at a flow rate of up to 10 GPM to meet the needs of larger homes with at least 2.5 bathrooms. We designed the filter to incorporate scale inhibition media to help prevent scale build-up in water-using appliances and piping. We have extremely hard water with calcium and this 3M 917HD-S improves the water em quality by 50%.  You have to use a sediment prefilter so that the 3m filter lasts longer.   I change the filter every 9-12 months for a family of 4.

I purchased and installed an AP904 Aqua-Pure filter about a month ago.  The water has gotten a lot better but not all the sulfur smell is gone.  I noticed in the 3M diagram there is not pre-filter so I did not install one thinking the filter would handle all the well water issues.  I still have a sulfur smell in the water especially the hot water.  Do I need a pre-filter?  Nothing listed on 3m specs.
