[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] First of all, my experience with Black and Decker is that they keep on working! My kitchen is now completely B%26D because they are the ones that never need  to be replaced. I've made 2 pots of coffee daily for over 10 years and my `Dust Buster  ` is working fine after 20 years of use with the original battery!   NOW, the 12" 40 Volt Chainsaw is simply a cinch to use. Today, I cut up about a dozen 5" %26 6" thick trees and cut down a few branches. I haven't tried it on any logs though. I have no doubt that it will do just fine. It only used up one power level light when I finished. Just a couple of notes. The first battery charge takes nearly 5 hours. It has lots of juice! The chain tension adjustment is ingenious and it leaks ZERO chain oil. I feel that had I purchased this sooner, I wouldn't have had to replace my last couple of saws. I can't be more pleased with it!  It's a good one!

We are renting a house with a LOT of old dying pine trees interspersed with sweetgums coming up everywhere. When we moved here, English and poison ivy had almost eaten all the trees, which I'm working to eradicate. I don't have the skill or experience to handle the whopper pines, but after watching training videos on YouTube, I've been able to take down a number of the smaller pines and sweetgums myself and buck them into short lengths for use as forest garden edging and hugelkultur materials. The main thing I'm trying to do is open up the property to more sunlight and return a portion of the forested area to deciduous hardwoods; this means I have to think carefully about what I'm doing and observe the impact of taking a tree down here, a tree down there. A tree service would have charged me several thousand dollars to thin out what I have been able to do myself, me, a little old lady under five feet tall with badly arthritic hands! I love the power and control this saw gives me! Just learn the techniques and safety cautions, and regularly clean and sharpen your saw, and you'll be able to do it, too.

I have owned this chain saw for over two years.  It has worked flawlessly.  It is a remarkably strong chain saw.  I am amazed by how well it cuts.  It has been used to cut down at least 200 small trees and many large limbs.  It has not needed repair parts, but I know they are readily available.  I have purchase extra chains, because the replacement chains are less expensive than sharpening.  B&D and other brand chains are readily available at low prices.

This is one of several 40v products that I own.  My only problem with any of these 40v products is that two battery units have failed (I have had at least 6 products with 40v batteries, and I bought two extra batteries, when on sale).

It would be nice if B&D added a telescoping 40v tree-limb pruning saw.

Excellent chain saw

After receiving the chainsaw, I was a little disappointed to find it would take 5 hours to charge the battery.  I put it on the charger yesterday afternoon & this morning I took it outside for a "test drive".  Oh my gosh - I am impressed!!!   First, I cut up a large tree (about 14" diameter) that had come down over my fence.  Then I worked on cutting saplings that were 2-6" in diameter.  Also cut them into pieces that were small enough for me to drag.  I'm a 65 yr old woman who is not in the best physical shape but I found this chainsaw very easy to use.  With the weight of my old 14" gas chainsaw, I could only work for about 40-60 minutes before my arms & back were too tired to go any further.  And, I had yet another gas engine to maintain. This morning, I worked for 1 hr 45 min with my new chainsaw.  Sawing, dragging debris to the back, sawing, dragging......  I wore out before the battery did - it was starting to slow down a bit, but I just couldn't do any more.  Now I'm thinking the 5 hr recharge won't be a problem because it's going to take a lot longer for my arms and back to recharge!!!!! HA!!!   LOVE this chainsaw!

I order this chainsaw for my wife. It didn't come with a battery. I double checked to make sure I had ordered the one that comes with a battery, cause I know they offer a bare tool also, and I had ordered the one with a battery.

No battery

Can't keep oil in it, it literally just runs out as I am using it.
