[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have another one of these hard disks, so I know about the quality.  And  the price is the cheapest I've ever seen.

Small, fast, high storage capacity for pictures and important videos. We store our vacation videos and pictures on this device. it's a lot easier and cheaper  to back up pictures and videos then it is to recreate them. It connects via USB C connector and transfers data really fast. You can protect the data on the drive using a password and the hard drive is encrypted using hardware based encryption which speeds it up.

fast and big

This little device, although it looks small. It has 4TB of storage space for your computer. I have downloaded my files from my desktop and laptop. They haven't even put a dent in this little device's storage capacity. It's great for backing up your files, your pictures. All the essential things you have on your computer. And once you get. Put in a safe space if you start adding more information. Get it back out, and add that information to it as well. Is money well spent?

Best money ever spent.

I was somewhat surprised that this portable drive was available at Walmart at the cheapest price. I already had a WD 2 TB drive, but I needed more space for video and picture backups. I opted for the slightly older model of the WD 4 TB, being a few bucks cheaper, and I didn't need all the newer encryption features.

Installation could not be easier. Just plug it in and wait a few seconds, a you've got a whole new HDD drive. I use it as a backup for my home PC. I get transfer rates from 50 to 80 MB/sec (much faster than flash thumb drives).

The device is small enough (about 4 x 5 x 0.75 inch) to stick in a drawer or safety deposit box for safekeeping.

Small and fast

Simple, good price, solid performance.

Note:  If you want maximum storage on a Windows PC, reformat it to NTFS.  I had an old 4TB WD external drive, formatted NTFS, about 3 TB on it.  When  I picked this new one up the old drive's data wouldn't transfer - turns out it was related to the exFAT cluster size, it couldn't handle a bunch of relatively small files, ate up too much space. (Reformat to NTFS worked fine)

NOTE2:  This drive doesn't come with the old WD wdstor app (which worked quite well). If you would like equivalent functionality check out the robocopy command available in Powershell.  It's very easy to craft a small script with a couple of robocopy commands, then  have Windows run it as a task (e.g., at 2am each night, or once a week, or...)

(neither of the above two Notes are negatives to me)

Good Performance at a Good Price

I am pleasantly surprised with with drive. Despite not being an SSD, read and write speeds during file backups are consistently around 800 megabits (aka 100 megabytes) per second. Backing up 1 TB of data took only 3-4 hours. It's not power-intensive, as I can connect it through a hub which can't  power other models. The USB Micro-B wire is a tight fit into the port / can be difficult to remove, so plan on taking the cord with the drive.

Beats speed expectations for a disk drive

Purchased as an external drive for Tablo DVR.  It has been working flawlessly and gives me all the room I need to record over-the-air programming. There hasn't been any speed buffering or glitches. Glad I chose this one for my new 4-tuner Tablo.

Works well with my Tablo DVR

I've had a WD 1TB EHD for about 15 years and have never had a problem with it. When I got my Tablo, I was glad to know that WD is compatible with it. So, that's why I got one and their 6TB was a better bargain than all the other places I searched.

This drive offers a lot of storage for the money. It's perfect for backing up photos, videos, and documents, and it has handled my large files without issue. The speed is a bit slower than high‑end options, so gamers or heavy performance users may want to look elsewhere, but for general data backup, it's a strong value.

Western Digital hits a great consumer sweetspot

Pros: 2.5"HDD(compact size, less heat), USB3.2 > HDD speed, <$ than other portable HDD
Cons: MfgDate2yrWarranty, (HDD unknown) most slower than 3.5"HDD, ~5200RPM, SMR
These are good (cost size) for offline, long-term storage (disk image, data).
Generally, 2.5"HDD are designed for enclosed space (low-heat) and power-saving, where as 3.5"HDD are designed for fan cooling and performance.
Over many years used muffin fan to cool 3.5"HDDs for reliability (after 3.5" portable cooked).
Large trasfer/copies: use small fan to cool case and/or breakup into smaller parts, allowing HDD to cool inbetween.
Important data = multiple backups locations, refresh every < 5years (HDD).

WD 4TB portable 2.5"HDD (WDBCTC0040BBL-WEWM)

I purchased this external hard drive and when I attempted to copy files to it wouldn't copy. I scanned the disk and 80% of the sectors were bad. Save your money and pick another product.
