The lighter will arrive empty. So after you fill it up with butane, you need to bleed the air inside using a small screwdriver.

Great that you can add an upgraded insert , ronson butane tip , owned by zippo fits for filling. Don't buy the aftermarket like I did .
Not 5 start , because it is not made in America by our old American company. Even though it has the zippo lifetime warranty and stamps.

the first one i ever bought was great but this last one is like i cant get it to work right it doesnt strike everytime and it spits and spuders and its like half flame half torch kinda.

needs improvment

Love this lighter insert so much this is the third one I'm buying. The first two both stopped working in less than a year. This is a Zippo lighter made in the good old USA I expected better quality than this.

They work great for about a year.

Every time you fill it up you have to readjust the flame. You have to strike it 2 times every time to get it to lite and it will NOT work in cold weather. Anything below 60 degrees it won't work! Maybe I got a defective piece so I'm going to order a second one to see what happens.,I should have returned it but I hate the process,especially when it's not really that expensive.

it lights when it wants to not all time even after fill up and completly duschare gas then refill have to hold strikervdown waste some fuel then try light again comes on goes off so thonk peice of junk

if they need a paperweight that's okay for your desktop if you don't need a paperweight your desktop it's not worth the grain of salt to me too inconsistent in in using it sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't sometimes I don't do nothing at all together works great I set it down 20 minutes later good morning light no matter what you do both of them it's really wasting money man wasting money worth $37 spent a long time

how to get burnt by same item two different ways

Everyone seems to rave about this type of butane insert but not me.

I am tired of throwing away plastic Bics but they last me 3-4 weeks each. The Bic seems to work on low pressure with a lazy flame.

But with this insert, one fill, with a proper air bleed, lasts me about a day.

The butane refill canister says it has butane equivalent to 41 disposable lighters.

This math does not compute.

Clearly I need to get s single torch unit, but even then this does not seem anything like what I expected.

Seems to me the Zippo butane insert uses WAY TOO MUCH PRESSURE like a blowtorch. I have tried adjusting the flame up and down, but too far and it won't light in cold weather at all. Have to keep it in your pocket or wait a minute in your hands.

Pretty disappointing. 

They need to go back to the drawing board and develop a low pressure version that lasts 10X at least.

The mechanism is bulletproof but it works too well. It is like a Dodge Viper that gets 4 mpg. The constant refills are problematic.
