Over 100 cord later the maul head to handle connection finally failed. Couldn't be happier with how long its lasted, its ergonomics, or its performance on hard to split wood. Will definitely be buying another one. Thanks fiskars for saving my joints!!!!!

I found this product while shopping for a new handle for my old tool. The shock-absorption feature caught my eye. I am so glad I ditched the old for this one. On my second winter using it. I can finally split my own wood without hurting! Well made; balanced; awesome.

Like Butter

A good buddy of mine told me to get this axe and it's worked better than any other mauls that I've owned. It swings with ease and splits through a lot of large logs and dense woods way easier than any other one that I've had.  Also very effective with driving a wedge.

Amazing axe!!!

I've been splitting wood by hand for over 50 years.15-20 cord per year. Used every type of maul out there and this by far, is the best! The taper on the cutting face is the key as it will blast through the toughest of hardwood in one hit and does not get stuck if it needs a second strike. There is absolutely no vibration and is very comfortable to use. If I had to find a flaw, it would be that it is only available in an axe type handle butt. I prefer a maul type handle with a small flair at the butt end. Thanks for making a great product!

BEST EVER!

It has been some time since I was growing up on the farm and had to split wood for winter. I just picked this bad boy up yesterday and immediately went to my wood pile. This maul performed flawlessly and works as they say. Once you get it moving it through the air and it strikes the wood it packs a punch. It slices through straight wood, knots and branch areas. The handle truly reduces vibration. I was tired but felt fine after 40 minutes of swinging. Great ergonomic grip with no slipping and no sticking. The weight is noticeable at first but with good form it is not noticed. Can't wait to try some other FISKARS products outside of my pruning loppers.

Absolutely LOVE this Maul!!

I bought this item less than a year ago & am glad I did.  I had 4 trees come down this year due to straight line wind.  That afforded me plenty of opportunity to test out the excellent design of this splitting maul.  There is less vibration transferred up the handle than the traditional hickory handled versions or the plastic handle versions with the same older head design.  It is quite comfortable to use for a few hours at a time but that is about all the vibration that my body can take without Inhibiting tomorrow's productivity.
Two items of note: 
1. When splitting green oak the head has a tendency to pop back out of the log because of the shape of the blade.  Unlike the traditional splitting maul where the head can be driven into the log with a sledgehammer without retreat.  It is less of a problem as the wood dries.
2. Warranty - it is possible for the handle to fail.  Mine failed in the best way possible by not flying apart completely.  However as I completed the warranty form ... I found out it was going to be 6-7 weeks to process my claim (seems a bit excessive). Time will tell how long it actually takes.

Less Vibration, Ergonomic Design, & Bigger Head

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a great maul for splitting large rounds. It's impractical for making kindling or splitting small pieces, but if you've got full rounds it works about as good as anything out there. Only thing I did was I sharpened the edge a bit. The profile of the head drives deep and splits the wood apart nicely. If you end up with a stubborn knotty or round with two trunk sections in it that is difficult to split in one swing, the driving face is wide and very easy to pound in deeper with another suitable tool (I've been using the isocore 8lb sledge for this)

I've broken a few wooden handles in the past, some due to bad swings, but often due to poor grain. The handle on this stands up to plenty of abuse and errant strikes. Great product, I've split tons of wood with it. Get the splitting axe to go along with it for your smaller splitting needs

Awesome splitting maul

Im on my 4th 8lb maul, in a time frame of 2.5 yrs... love the 8lb, but it keeps breaking inside the bit. And no one around my area here in chemung county ny honors your "lifetime in store warranty" I sell firewood for a living and its the way I split wood, with a maul. Not satisfied...

Love this maul

I'm on my second of these and the plastic on both has cracked at the neck. Fiskars was great about replacing the original crack right away. But they aren't allowing me to warranty the replacement product they sent me that also cracked. Either they stand behind their product or they don't. But standing behind an original and not standing behind a replacement is a little ridiculous.

Good But Doesn't Last

I enjoyed using my 8 lb maul right up to when the head broke in half at the pin in the middle of the head. I had it for about 5 years. Doesn't look like the warranty covers it. A 71 year old man shouldn't have been able to brake it.
