Having just purchased a new HP laptop, and not having a DVD/CD port/reader in the unit, I needed an external drive.  Purchasing this item was a fantastic decision.  It is a outstanding product and I can recommend it enthusiastically.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This DVD writer is great!!!!! The only thing that I have a problem is, how to slow the writer so I can put movies on one DVD!! I use this item at the local library, but can not get any kind of help!!!! Because the staff think that I'm downloading movies that have copyright's!!! But the two websites that I use has movies that have no copyright or they where not renewed! Please get this great writer! And see how it works for you!!!!!

Excellent price, works well. However, the software provided was useless. I was able to go online and download free software that worked well. Someone less equipped to do this might wind up being a return. Fyi.

Nice Product, did not use provided software

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Works just as needed. Just plugged it in and that was it. Got it for my custom build (W10) and barely notice it sitting on top. Only 'eh' problem is that its a popout tray which has fragility issues over time.

Works like a charm

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So far I've had a couple of issues--one particularly important for me: 1) the write speed seems slower than indicated by X__; 2) if burning a file that requires more than one blank disc to complete . . . it simply re-burns the first part over and over again, asking for an additional disc to be inserted ad infinitum!

Not bad . . . EXCEPT

After using it less than a month it doesn't burn DVD'S only plays them. I am in the process of returning it after less than a month.

This device worked fine out of the box the first time I used it. Every time I have tried since (using the exact same computer), the computer can't even recognize the drive is connected, much less do anything. I cannot run the update software because it cannot find the drive. The drive does not appear in my Device Manager on Windows (I checked every single subcategory in case my computer accidentally classified it as a keyboard or something weird). To my computer, this thing simply does not exist. The cord works, as the drive has power, but the computer cannot see it. I am beyond frustrated that I spent money on this thing.

Worked once and never again

I had to install the software 2 times to get it to work once and then after 30 days I had to purchase an upgrade to continue to viewTbuy a diffent kind of portable DVD. The is no trouble shooting helps on the web site. This product just leaves you hanging and upset that you wasted your money on this. Nothing is good about this product

I was excited to buy this and take it home to try and burn DVDs for the first time.  On the package LG advertises that all the necessary software is included.  Unfortunately, this isn't the case.  You can't burn DVDs unless you buy a software upgrade for $39.99.  This may be a good value if you only are looking to burn music or create a file back up.  If you are purchasing the drive for burning DVDs, you need to expect that it will cost you another $40 to get the capabilities that you need.

All the advertised software is not included.

I bought this a little under 2 months ago, and it worked great for about 2 weeks. I bought it for my acer chromebook so that I could view jpeg files and do my homework for school. I was able to use it for about 2 weeks and then it stopped working. The disk just spins and will no longer read. I starting thinking there was a problem with my chromebook, which I bought at the same time, so I had a friend use it on her Macbook (She has used mine previously, and it worked fine). The drive didn't work on hers either. I am just so annoyed because I made sure that I bought a chromebook and an external drive that were compatible for school, and now I'm back to using the school's outdated computers that are usually broken. The price was reasonable, but not worth 2 weeks of use. I do not recommend.

Very Disappointed.
