Bought this grill for an early Fathers Day present for my husband. I ordered it online and it was delivered to our house within 4 days. We put it together in which they made this process very simple. Kids came in for the weekend and he cooked up ribs, chicken, smoked sausage and veggie shush kebabs. Mind you all at the same time. It worked great! Cooked great! The food taste fantastic! This grill may be a little expensive but well worth the money.  Made to last for like ever.

Use the lump charcoal (not briquets) as recommended. Bring the heat up by adjusting the dampers, as once this unit gets hot, it's a challenge to bring down the temperature.
Will easily cook at 230 deg for several hours, producing outstanding BBQ.  The upper rack is great for cooking, not "warming" as indicated in the description.

I was looking for a cooker that would provide a way to charcoal grill some meats, but also provide a good way to smoke others. I too was looking at the Green Egg, but just could not justify the price for my needs. Based on other reviews, I thought this would be an excellent alternative.  It has been so far.  Delivered without any damage or missing parts, fairly easy to put together- 2 people are nice as it is bulky.

Once assembled, it was ready to go. Seasoned the grilling surfaces and off I went to smoke my pork butt.  I had a little trouble getting the heat right, but that was my fault and lack of following the instructions for damper controls. Turned out beautifully after 10 hours of smoking. 

For me, this was a good purchase. I am not a professional grill master, but love the flavor or good charcoal and wood cooking.  I also love the fact that the charcoal and wood chamber comes off for easy cleaning and disposal of the ashes. 

I am giving it an overall rating of 5, simply because compared to my combination gas and charcoal grill, so far the quality of this Kooker, far exceeds what I have had in the past.

No.1! Can't describe enough but it's a great deal. Solid construction. Can't believe how long the charcoal last at a proper setting, overnight or a day. This will save me a lot of propane gas. There is still a whole lot more of other recipes i wanted to try, smoke or grill with this. Very excited!

This is a wonderful product the reason why I only gave it 4 out of 5 stars because the hood of the grill was dented.  Informed CharGrill they stated that they would send another hood.  We shall see but grill is worth the money.

Food is delicious

This smoker / grill is fairly easy to assemble and seems to be a well built machine. I have used it only once to date after the initial seasoning session for burning off the manufacturing oils and preparing the grate. My first attempt was to control the temperature at 350 degrees for 1 1/2 hours to cook a 6 lb. chicken. It worked beautifully. The temperature controls using the top and bottom air vents is very precise. Like the manual stated; a 1/4 inch turn on the top vent raises the temperature 25 degrees. It worked. Here's what I like:

1. Strong build quality and made in USA
2. Very  good temperature control
3. Easy cleanout of ashes after cool down
4. Heavy cast iron grill grates
5. Dome is large enough for beer can chicken or large turkey
6. Porcelain coated inside
7. Retains the heat by using multilayer construction with insulation

Here's what I wish it had:

1. easy way to place more coal into the bottom while cooking
2. height adjustment for the charcoal grate

I used some advice form another purchaser who had used the Akorn more than I; he stated that the Weber charcoal grate for the Weber 22.5 inch kettle grill will fit perfectly on the inner charcoal chamber of the Akorn.  I purchased the Weber Grate and it fits perfectly on the handles inside the fire chamber. Now I have at least two levels of charcoal capability. The grate only  cost $10.00

In all, this is a great product. I will be smoking 6 Kokonee fish ( fresh water salmon)today. I know it will do a great job.

Unit now I am not using it yet and I really like my new Akorn kamado grill, it looks very beautiful and it should be very efficiency. The only one I don't like is there are not much accessoies I can buy for my Akorn grill like the Rotisserie ring, so I don't give 5 stars.

This grill came damaged, the replacement was also damaged. I contacted the manufacturer the answer to fix the problem was take it apart and they would send replacement parts. The internal hex coil were broke loose so it can't be taken apart so how do I do that ?  Very disappointed
