This is my fifth ASUS router and my third in the 86U series. Following my standard protocol, I immediately flashed the latest Merlin firmware. While the hardware performance is rock-solid as expected, the setup process was more demanding than previous generations. Navigating the new Multi-Link Operation (MLO) and the updated method for splitting SSIDs by band required a bit of a learning curve. Because I needed to maintain legacy static IP assignments for my 2.4GHz and 5GHz devices, it took some effort to replicate my long-standing configuration. Ultimately, the challenges were entirely firmware-driven rather than a hardware fault..

Over the years, I have had several different ASUS routers, replacing them as technology evolves.  I have found all of my ASUS routers to be extremely reliable.  The phone app and the GUI interface makes it easy to setup and manage the routers.  The routers are feature rich and reasonably priced.

Excellent, reliable router

ASUS Router offers excellent parental control and scheduling tools that make managing screen time much easier for families. The time block scheduling is clear, consistent, and reliable, helping parents set healthy boundaries without constant reminders. It works very well with our internet modem and does not slow down our internet at all.

This router is powerful enough to broadcast throughout my older house.  The setup was simple and very quick.  I assumed I would need mesh satellites before I unboxed the router, but was quickly surprised.  The technology is amazing and the price was very good.  ASUS products are impressive.

Great router with easy setup

We have had this installed for a couple weeks. We replaced a T-Link with this router because we were having major issues with our Blink cameras. This router solved the problem. Also the app is very handy for tracking usage.

I live in a subdivision with eight other WIFI network visible to me.  My home has 14 WIFI devices connected.  So I live in a very congested environment.  I have 400mps fiber optic Internet that was solid.  My older router was a Nighthawk R7800 introduced in 2016.  I was experiencing buffering on my TV and laptop.  Since I connected the RT-BE86U the buffering has stopped.  Setup was very easy.

Router is easy to setup and instructions are good enough for those without a tech background.  Only issues I had involved my internet provider who had to adjust their settings so my router would communicate with the web. Strong, powerful, and easily covers my entire 1800 Sq. Ft. house and yard.

I was having problems setting up a static IP (for a desktop NAS server) with my older (Non-ASUS) router/modem and understood it was better to set it to Bridge mode to a new dedicated router.  I chose the RT-BE86U based on features, good reviews, a modern look, and a fair price.  Not only has it worked as intended, but the software and configurable options far exceed my expectations. I have not only benefited from its added capabilities, but learned more about optimal security and performance options.

Replacement for a Router/Modem Combo

Set up my new Asus router yesterday, and it took longer than the 15 minutes noted in the sales pitch.  Once I got all my devices connected, I found it to be as fast as promised and way faster than my previous router and speed & stability were 2 of the reasons I bought it.  Security was the 3rd reason for the purchase, and I was able to quickly update the firmware.  I'm a happy camper!

That is my second asus router and the same as my first just after buy it I need to change it because of an issue. But this time I had to contact asus support that is the worst I have seen so far. I am not able to reach them, wrong Canadian support number in their website and it has passed one week and no feedback from them
