Setup

Range

Can be straightforward, but may require troubleshooting.

Unable to separate 2.4ghz and 6ghz bands, causing connectivity issues.

I bought this router as an upgrade and update to my old 2 band, 1200 Mbit router. Installation was easy. I plugged the 2.5 Gbit Wan port in to the 10 Gbit port on my fibre optic modem and it connected automatically. I use PPPoE so I changed that setting and it switched over without problem. I have lots of bandwidth for my devices plus future expansion capabilities using AIMesh.

Easy to set-up, resolved wifi issues on its own to farther reaches of our house. I also quite easily set up a wired backhaul setup using Aimesh using my old Asus Ac2900 router which allowed wired connections in other areas of our house. Has worked flawlessly so far.

Easy set-up, Aimesh node works great with this.

This is a difficult one. I'd like to give it 3 stars but it's better than that. However, since I've had this router I find myself rebooting it several times a month. Devices that were “well behaved” before (on the old router - another Asus) are now troublesome. It's has a few bugs. I had a hard time setting up a 2.4ghz and a 5ghz separate bands. The router would never show the 2.4ghz band. None of my 2.4ghz devices could find it. I had to settle for the automatic setting where the router does it for you. This seems to work but I am rebooting as mentioned above. It's fast. Has tons of bandwidth. Lots of options to customize.

The size of the router is too big.  Wall mounting is awkward as the status lights are on the side.

Very hard to manage

-I had high hopes but what a complete disappointment:
After setup (as an Access Point only, using web UI, it freezes and the web UI hanges allot.
Some times I was able to add one other node then the web UI froze or lagged or didn't load. I tried 20 times with different methods.

This router as a node worked as the web gui of another asus device is used gor management, and the older AP didn't hang. But the node still didn't connect using 6Ghz and there was no way to separate the bands out. I.e. 5G is combined with 6G.

Internet test faky and fails in the middle, with errors.

-You cannot use the app to setup up in AP mode, only router mode,with WAN connection.

-Wifi 6G BSSID doesn't show in all my testing and all my devices, 4 of them. 3 Laptops and 1 desktop, yes my drivers are latest and 6Ghz is enabled etc, and my laptops and desktop works in 6Ghz with other APs, just not this one.

Looks like buggy firmware, that a return for me. Hopefully they'll fix these issue and test all the setup mode, including AP mode with mesh, I.e. no WAN usage.

I love asus products but the Web UI is old and dated looking. Time to bring it into 2023. Its junky looking. And I don't love this router at all wasted 3 days on testing
