This is the second one of these, the first one was hit by a lightning surge. Fairly straight forward setup, has my computers, phones etc back up in no time.

My old ASUS router died after 15 years! The only thing to do was buy another ASUS. It was installed and up and running in 5 minutes. Fantastic product.

Great Product

This router was so easy to set up. Download the app, plug the router in and follow the steps to complete setup. It has a "family feature" where you can assign all equipment to individuals then set limits for each person and a cutoff time for that person. I use this feature to make sure my son is not online after lights out. He doesn't like it, but half an hour before bedtime, I have it set to cutoff so he can get to bed on time. The only thing I do not like is that it may not be compatible with older IoT equipment. I have Feit programmable light bulbs that will not work with it. On the plus side, it has WiFi 7 at 1k speeds, for compatible devices.

Its working great. Setup was a breeze.and the price was good considering all of the functions and it's capacity to handle so many devices. It's exactly what i was looking for in a router.

Router

Great mid range WiFi 7 router! I didn't need the highest end router for my office but I did need something on the newest wifi standard in addition to faster than gigabit speeds. One of the best features of this router is having a 2.5 Gb WAN port as well as four 2.5 Gb LAN ports for all of your devices so plenty of high speed ports for the future. The router also has a 2.0 GHz quad core processor and 1 Gb of RAM to handle any multitasking. A USB port in the back can be used for either a NAS or to work as a second WAN port. I have set this router up to handle two separate modems as it supports dual WAN since I need internet failover for my business connectivity, using one of the LAN ports to act as the second WAN. Further, as I did not need the 6 GHz radio, it is important to note this router is only dual band and this helps to keep its overall cost down. I have set up two of these units in an AiMesh system to provide better coverage to the office area but I have them hardwired through Ethernet backhaul in order to keep the bandwidth available for my devices. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase and upgrade to my office internet setup.

Fantastic Midrange WiFi 7 Router

I bought the RT-BE82U for myself but my kid, who lives in an apartment complex, was having issues with the provided solution, wanted to try it and was very happy so I told him to keep that and ordered another one.  It's easy setup and I moved my other, older one, to living room as a mesh node.

Good product for the price

I purchased this to replace a 5 year old Netgear Nighhawk.  This unit without a doubt is the most frustrating unit I have ever set up.  Took me around 5 hours to setup.  

The instructions  that come with it are very limited.  Since I did not have internet I had to use my phone to trouble shoot.  

One of my main problems was trying to separate the 2.4 and 5 channels so I could assign the 2.4 channel to my echo dots and mini plugs.  This was needed so they would work properly.  After much reading I found an article that I was able to follow to accomplish this.  

So once that was done it I tried to use the 2.4 to connect to my echo dots and mini plugs but it would not work.  So back to research and found that there is another channel of "IOT" internet of things to use for these devices.  What a royal pain in getting them all connected and working.  If I only had a tv or computer it would not have been as bad.  

I have worked on computers for a long time and this new "IOT" band was new to me as it was not available 4 years ago when I setup my new router.  

My download speeds are less than my previous router.  I will have to go back  in and check settings again to see  if this can be improved.  

If you have a lot of time on your hands then get this unit, otherwise I would look for something a little bit easier to work with.  

The bottom line is would I purchase again and the answer would be no.

Total Frustration

I've been using Asus routers for many years and have been very pleased with the performance and reliability of them. It was only logical that when the need for a new router came up I would choose Asus again. Big mistake, the RT-BE82U that I received is horrible. Extremely slow performance in every aspect of it. Maybe I got a lemon. Very disappointed this time around.

I bought this back in September 2025 and I don't believe 5g has ever worked. It is slow and drops out often, not my isp as we tested at 586Mb/s while I'm stuck at 8-50Mb/s. I'd like it replaced. If next one works, I'll change review.

5g will not work

After a few months I noticed that my internet speed dropped to 92Mbps from the normal 1Gbps. After testing with the ISP, I noticed that the WAN port on the router was only negotiating to 100Mbps. I had made no changes. I finally created a second WAN port on the LAN Port 3 and restored the speed. Hoping this review will cause some action. I don't want to RMA the device if I can limp by until it is EOL which is all too soon in 2028.
