My upgrade was much needed. I am rolling with ease now. I had accumulated way too many devices that used daily, so upgrading was needed. I thought the AT&T gateway was trying to slow me down but my older router just couldn't handle the load. Since a lot of devices I use were manufactured during the WiFi 6 craze (laptops, etc), the WiFi 7 infrastructure can be problematic. My advice to anyone buying this system, is to log into chatgpt or other AI source and input your current home setup (i.e, what kind of devices, your ASP modem, old router, how you had your networks set up, etc). It really helps and yet, you will still run into some issue. Mine was the Guest Network for visitors, plus I had one just for IoTs, one for my 2.4G printer, and one for the main (2.4, 5, 6), and a VPN network for my business devices. In other words, I gave it a lot to work through. Also, create completely different SSID names than the former unless you know your stuff. Most importantly : DO THE FIRMWARE UPDATES FIRST!! before you do anything else (once you install the routers and download the ASUS app). Use the ASUS app to do everything even upgrading the firmware.  Hope my info helps because I almost did not purchase this router. However, I noticed the poor reviews were mainly from people who had issues with the set up. I did not. I just didn't understand everything at first and like I said, I have a lot of devices that needed different routing and I am forced to keep my AT&T gateway plugged in (I did all of the IP passthrough stuff), so there was bound to be issues. It took a few days to get everything right, but it was worth the wait and in my opinion worth the money. We will all be forced to buy the newer devices eventually and this powerhouse router will be able to handle them all.

I was looking to maximize faithful transmission of all bandwidth provided by my internet provider and markedly extend my useful signal range throughout my home and property; my BQ-16 Pro pair did both perfectly! Wide ranging gigabit internet active in literally 10-12 minutes. Setup with the ASUS router app prompts was as smooth as “buttah” as the saying goes! Strongly recommend this router and node combination. Truly superior!!!

Fast as Lightning, Setup Smooth Like “Buttah”!

The router was extremely easy to set up, and I appreciated the simplicity of using the QR codes. I was a little intimidated by some of the things I read about how hard it might be, but after starting the process, it went very smoothly.

Easy setup and functionality

After a lot of research I decided to update my no longer supported router to a WiFi-7 router, and ASUS was my choice for all it offered. It is fast and covers my entire home. There are no subscriptions for services, unlike the competitors, and the price was competitive with other routers in its class.

Strong fast router, fairly easy setup

This was an upgrade to a pair of XT8's that were working fine, but I have multiple wifi7 capable devices now and wanted to see if it lives up to the hype. At first I treated these like all my other ASUS routers with separate SSIDs for each frequency and attaching to them manually. That works normally for 2.4 and 5Ghz, but not so much for 6Ghz. So I took the plunge and combined 5 and 6 channels with MLO off initially so I could evaluate steering. I'm leaving 2.4 out since the bulk of my other devices chew that up. 

Worked fine, but nothing earth shattering. Then I turned MLO back on and BAM! I've never seen speeds like this on my mobile devices. Never! And so far it's been rock solid. I still have separate 2.4 and 5Ghz SSIDs for my legacy devices so I don't have to change their network settings. Way too many of them. Great upgrade so far provided they don't die early deaths like my first pair of XT8's, but that's what warranty is for after all. :)

Great upgrade

Replaced non-functioning unit (Orbi - relatively new shorted out in bright flash) with BQ16 Pro. Was very easy to set up for all modern devices in home, super easy to set up guest network and (more complicated) 2-band IoT network (2.4 and 5 GHz) for older legacy devices (garage door opener and security camera). Everything works perfectly, no issues, couldn't be happier.

Really Outstanding Capability

I need to make two reviews, one for technology and specifications, the other for set-up. The BQ16 Pro definitely is 5 star+ for tech specs and performance (quad band) - it's blazing fast with Wifi 7 devices and quadrupled the speeds of my Wifi-7 enabled laptops. And Wifi 6 devices are also much faster than they were on my older Wifi 6E router (Asus Zen Xt12 with 2 Xt8 meshes). I live in a 100 year old house with thick plaster/lathing walls, cement block finished basement, two large chimneys that can block signals, at least a dozen or so metal ducts for the added HVAC system that will block signals, a second floor and a large yard with garage where I have security cameras. So getting adequate coverage in this house is a challenge. The two pack mesh BQ16 Pro provides adequate coverage, but the security cameras in the garage and yard are 2 or 3 out of 5 in signal strength (all other devices are 5/5 in finished basement, main and second floor - main router is in basement, mesh is on main or first floor, both units raised up about 7 feet off their floors and not in closets).
For set-up ease I rate it 3 or 4 out of 5. I did not opt for the suggested IoT separate network during set-up, and maybe I should have. Instead I had to re-install nearly all of my devices and this took a couple of days of focused work (actually I still have 3 more devices to finish). But once re-installed, everything worked perfectly and faster than my old system. The tech in BQ16 Pro is cutting-edge with upgraded CPU's, memory, and firmware, but apparently remains backward compatible with older devices as long as you re-install them, or maybe opt for the separate IoT network. I wanted both fronthaul and backhaul on the MLO bands with no separate networks. And since it's quad band, both 6 GHz channels can be used in the MLO configuration.
So, yes it was worth it to spend so much time and effort in re-installing nearly all my devices  (some such as the Amazon Echo studio speakers re-installed automatically), but I had my doubts initially and  wondered if it was worth the extra trouble - well, it was. I'm very pleased with the new mesh system and it's definitely 'future-proofed'.

BQ16 Pro super fast with challenging set-up

Last week I upgraded from an ancient Apple Airport Extreme to the ZenWiFi BQ16 Pro and, for the most part, could not be happier. The performance, the simplicity of setup, and the very user-friendly app are all at least as good as claimed in the reviews I consumed prior to purchase. My only quibble is the unacceptable degree of data harvesting to which one must consent before Ai Protection, QoS, etc., can be enabled. Ah well. I'll just have to content myself with the blazing speed of this beast and complete coverage of every square inch of our home. :)

From Airport to Zen

All but 1 of my "older" 2.4Ghz devices connected to ASUS ZenWiFi BQ16 Pro after updating firmware, and running "Mesh Optimization".  I Still cannot get that device to connect. I have 79 devices running on Wifi.  78 have connected. Both speed and connection strength is excellent.

I installed the system four months ago and it was a relatively straightforward process. The network experience in our home improved and we were happy.  Then, about three months later, the system stopped working with (lost connectivity with) more than half of the smarthome devices in our place.  We have nearly 100 smart switches, plugs, fans, thermostats, tv's etc.  The problem affects devices from multiple manufacturers and occurred when we were away with nobody at home.  There was no action taken by myself (i am the only person that manages the system).  I've since tried to figure out the problem and at one point, re-set the system and set it up again.  The result has stayed the say.  Extremely disappointing.

Easy to install but big firmware problem

1st attempt to setup didn't work because the 1 of the two routers( the one they said to make the main) never achieved the first step of a solid blue light ready for set-up. I used the reset button and after a couple power cycles i was able to start set-up.
Then 2nd attempt to set-up using app went very smoothly.
Mesh was established and optimized. As I started to connect clients they connected well without any issues. Router firmware was updated ok no apparent issues.
Than I did speed tests on wifi and wired connections, Wired was ~5ooMbps which is what i have from provider. Wifi 5Ghz band downloads speed were low on both iphone and Asus laptop 100-170Mbps download (uploads 300-400Mbps) at various locations from 3 feet to 30 feet from router. Not the performance I was expecting. Two days of Asus tech support and the fasted wifi wireless speeds achieved was 250Mbps. Tech support had me revert to previous firmware, rebooted routers,   repeated set-up, played with wireless band settings for virtually no improvement. Around the house download speeds are typically 170Mbps. I did a speeed test with a fire cube it was connected to 6Hz and speed was only 110Mbps. Hopefully future firmware updates will improve performance. I'm seriously considering returning for a refund, I expected more when paying such a high price.
