This AccuChef Wired Meat Thermometer features a long heat-resistant stainless steel probe that stays in the oven throughout the cooking process. Ultra thin probe tip keeps foods moist and juicy.  It has 14 pre-programmed meat doneness settings plus a manual setting option.  Simply insert the probe into the meat, select the meat type and your desired level of doneness and alarm will signal when selected doneness level is reached. The transmitter has a large backlit LCD touch screen that's lights up on touch for easy reading.  It is great for monitoring cooking in the oven or in the barbecue!

Can be intuitive, but also awkward to use.

Insufficient screen illumination hinders reading.

I just used my thermometer for lamb loin chops. They came out perfect it was my first try with the new thermometer.  Its also easier to use than other ones i have had.

Perfect first time

It's been 4 years and it still works well

Good

It's awkward to use.  Once the backlight goes off it's hard to get it back on to properly see the screen.  It kept beeping at me every so often even though it hadn't reached temperature 
The cord is good. My last one burnt when it touched the oven.

Meat thermometer

The only redeeming quality to this unit is the satisfying way it shatters when you spike it on your deck and the pleasing crunch the LCD makes under foot as you stomp on it to make sure it's fully dead.

I've had this unit only a few months and it's build quality and performance are so shoddy as to invoke a state of absolute glee the moment I decided it needed to die so it couldn't frustrate me any more.  Using the touch screen to toggle functions/settings is frustrating as it never responds, unless you are trying to reactivate the back light which shuts off way to quickly making the display unreadable - in which case the unit will gladly switch programs, wiping out the settings you have just spent 10 minutes fighting with that screen to input.

Just don't.

Terrible

I have an instant read at our cottage that was given to me as a gift! I liked it on first try!
I really didn't care for this from the first use! Difficult to program, back light goes out after a short time on.

Today after about the fourth time I have used it, I got goofy readings as previous people have experienced. "288C. cooking temperature"! for the time it was put in raw meat!
Also could not change from C. to F. stuck on F.

Time to move on!

I will buy another type!

This supposedly has many described cool features but the design is flawed. Maybe because of use of cheap materials. The most annoying "feature" is that the display dims after 3 seconds (presumably to save battery life). The display is unreadable in dim mode. To bring the display back, you have to touch the location of any of the buttons, which activates the button, and changes the setting to something you didn't want. Cycle through the many setting by repeatedly touching the button. If you skip over it, too bad. Cycle through again. 

It ships with a default setting to Celcius. To change to Fahrenheit, you need to hold the middle button down for 3 seconds. This rarely works the first time. And you need to do it every time you turn it on.

Overall, a cheap frustrating tool. After 3 months the display simply stopped working. I threw mine in the trash. Lesson learned: you often get less than what you pay for.

Garbage Product

I bought one of these.  It looked good and is supposed to have the features I wanted - manual setting, alarm when reaches 130F.  However it was unstable.  Would not stay on the manual setting and randomly cycled through the set of pre-programmed settings. Turned it off and on, reset, checked wires.  Could not get it to remain on the setting I wanted.  It seems the touch surface interface is problematic.   Returned and would not buy again.

Looks good and supposed to have good features

It really is a piece of cheap garbage! The plug for the probe is loose, it won't even stay plugged in when you move it. I might as well have lit a $20 bill on fire.

Probe doesn't stay plugged in!

So bad! Backlight turns off after 10 sec and it is impossible to read when it's off. The probe didn't even last for one cooking and now gives error of false reading. Now I need to take it back to WalMart for refund, complete waste of time! And this was the ONLY choice on the shelf..

Horrible product

I bought this thermometre and for the price I thought it would be the best one. I was wrong. The temperatures are all off and it overcooks everything. Leave it on the shelf and walk away.
