The Active Aqua Root Spa is a Deep Water Culture System. This 5 gallon bucket system is simple and grows large plants efficiently. You will quickly realize the advantage of the simplicity of this easy to use, inexpensive, and no hassle system! Pumping raw air into the nutrient solution without the need of expensive and often troublesome air stones is both cost effective and easy. 

You can use your choice of hydroponic media (sold separately), such as clay pebbles, Number 4 perlite, rockwool mini cubes, coco chips, etc. Since this is a hydroponics system, soil should be avoided. Soil may contain dust, fungi, and bacteria, all of which can contaminate the hydroponics system.

I struggle to grow anything in the soil around my house, but this hydrates the plant (I am notoriously bad at that if left to my own devices), and keeps it healthy! Setup was quick and easy, and the air pump keeps roots oxygenated. I used it to grow leafy greens, and they thrived with fast, healthy growth. (Growth was quicker than I intended) The bucket is indeed sturdy and the system runs quietly just like how I prefer. Just monitor your pH and nutrient levels for best results. For the price, it's a solid starter kit that delivers results without needing advanced knowledge. Highly recommend for home growers!

The shipping was fast, and the hydro set up is pefect. Produced my biggest yeild so far and so easy. Plus the clear tube helps you maintain water level, I marked mine with black sharpie to know the level I prefered!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Absolutely fantastic all in one product. I've had many experiences with different DWC (deep water culture) buckets including DIY recirculating systems and while this bucket will not give you the same results as a recirculating system w/water chiller, it is a great product for ease of entry into hydroponics and space saving designs. As long as you keep your water temps under control and change your water regularly (I was changing daily by mid-grow) you shouldn't have any issues with this system. 

The value to performance ratio when you factor in convenience makes this an easy choice to make. My one complaint (very insignificant and small) is the fact that the clip that holds the water level tube is extremely tight. Perhaps a little looser would make it a little easier to clean/disassemble.

Didn't like it no instructions for dummies

The little air pump that comes with unit couldn't take the outdoor temp of 115 and stopped working.  Also, the air tube wasn't quite sealed at the top and had to duck tape it...My review is this item is temp -- a season or two and then it will break down.

Can't hold up to outdoor use

Would not recommend still have to drill hole for pump air, sounds convenient but anyone can achieve same goal with a lil DIY and 30 dollars least
