I have been using these for years.  I have them in everyroom.  And they do turn on automatically when the power goes out.  I cant remember what a dark house looks like cause these as nightlights are fantastic.  The reason i first bought these was because when during a storm and power went out I couldnt catch my 2 dogs 2 cats and parrot in the dark.
Had no idea where the cats hid. First bought other emergency lights and found these the best so got all of these.  Just make sure you set it right when first plugging in.  make sure its for automatic instead of flashlight.  Worth every penny.

These are what I had been looking for.  They work great to add light in the hallway, and will be perfect for when the power goes out.

we needed new ones since ours were 30 years old and broken. these work great! they automatically turn on when you turn off the main lights, but they aren't too bright.

These a great little lights. They are a night light at night, but in a power failure the larger front light comes on. I have one upstairs and one downstairs. It can be removed from the wall and used as a flashlight at well. Wouldn't be without one in my home.

Great emergency light for locations where a nightlight is helpful, like hallways.  Too bright for a bedroom.

These work nice although they are a bit large.  However, One out of Six was bad right out of the box

These lights work okay for about a year, then you are left in the dark without knowing the batteries are dead because the product is always plugged in.  A better, cheaper option is to buy motion sensing lights that are not plugged in and rechargeable batteries that last 10 years.  That way you know when the batteries need to be recharged, so you are not in the dark when the power goes out, you do not have throw away $10 per light every year, and you are not using an outlet.  This will save about $6/light/year, so if you have 10 lights that could be a $600 savings over 10 years.
