John Landis' genre-blending masterpiece delivers on all fronts—sharp humor, bone-chilling horror, and groundbreaking practical effects that still hold up over 40 years later.

Rick Baker's Academy Award-winning werewolf transformation remains one of the most impressive practical effects sequences in cinema history. Watching David Naughton's character undergo a painfully realistic metamorphosis—bones snapping, muscles stretching, skin contorting—is both mesmerizing and horrifying.

Beyond the legendary effects, the film's darkly comedic tone is one of its greatest strengths. Griffin Dunne's sarcastic and decaying Jack provides some of the funniest (and most unsettling) moments, ensuring that even in its grimmest scenes, the film never takes itself too seriously. The soundtrack is equally brilliant, with every song referencing the moon in a cheeky yet fitting way.

Arrow Video's 4K release offers a stunning native 4K restoration with Dolby Vision enhancing colors and detail. Some grain persists, which is to be expected. The audio is well handled with a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track, delivering immersive sound, alongside an original mono option for those that want to experience it that way. Special features are robust, including two audio commentaries, feature-length documentaries like Mark of the Beast, and interviews with Landis and Baker. It's a definitive upgrade for fans of this horror classic.

Didn't come with a slip cover, which is kind of a bummer, but a great 4k transfer of an all time classic. A must own for any horror collector.

Wonderful slate of extras (both new and legacy), and far and away the best the movie has ever looked/sounded on a home-video format. Still a great flick, balancing horror and humor in a way most similar efforts strain to achieve. Rick Baker's effects are aces.
