I love everything about it so much I purchased 3 more. I keep one on my counter full of dishwasher pods %26 have lots of comments. I keep one on top of my drying with laundry soap pods %26 one is filled with candy (individually wrapped) and the last one is a cookie jar.

These are well made, very heavy duty jars with thick glass that don't disappoint.  The only thing that could make them even better is to have a seal inside the lid, for more airtight storage.  Ideal for hefty, yet attractive countertop or pantry storage that will hold up well to constant use and washing.    Will definitely be buying more over time.

Heavy Duty AND Attractive

I LOVE apothecary jars, but the larger ones like these were just too pricy — until I found these! Anchor is an excellent brand, and they continue to live up to their reputation with these jars! They are substantial, clear glass jars with clear glass lids, and they look amazing on my counters!

The Anchor Hocking Glass Heritage Jar, 1 gal (3.8L) is perfect to hold 5 lbs. of King Arthur organic all-purpose flour. I put it in our pantry.
The jar is good looking (clean lines), wide opening (easy scooping), is thick clear glass (durable), dishwasher safe, and is USA made. It comes with a glass lid. See photos.
I trust AH's quality and value for money. I have many items from AH.

Great for pantry or countertop

I bought this glass jar to use as a terrarium for air plants - it works great! It is a thick and heavier glass that shouldn't easily break. The lid sits without a seal so I wouldn't use for unsealed food, but would be great for small packaged items. I recommend.

These DO NOT have a seal - but the description notes that.  I love them!!!  I have used many, many of them in my Laundry, Pantry %26 Kitchen.  They are wide mouthed so that you can easily retrieve your stored item (flour, sugar, laundry soap, etc.).  Wonderful, heavy quality!!!  I just wish they sold seals for them!

The Anchor Hocking Heritage Hill Glass Jar (1 Gallon) is a beautiful and functional addition to my kitchen. Its classic design and sturdy glass construction make it a standout piece on my countertop—it truly elevates the space with a timeless charm. The generous size is perfect for storing bulk items, and the wide mouth makes access easy and convenient.
While it wasn't advertised as airtight, I do wish it had that feature to keep contents fresher longer. That said, it's still a fantastic jar for dry goods, decorative storage, or even as a display piece. Overall, I'm very pleased with the quality and aesthetic—it's a great blend of style and utility.

Normally things like this have a silicone gasket.  I really don't understand why this doesn't.  It's just glass on glass.  If you put the lid down too hard (and I don't even mean slam it down) you risk cracking it perhaps.  It's a thick glass, so it won't break easily, but it's still glass rubbing against glass every time you put that lid down.  This also means the seal isn't as good since there is no give at all, especially once you get bits of flour (or sugar or whatever else) on the rim.

I tried to cut something to fit, but it's a chore even to get it to stay on.  Possibly a rubber band or similar could work better, but most are too small and thin and there's no lip on the inside to hold anything in place, so it can slide off.  It may be necessary to glue something in...

It's good at all the rest of what it does.  It's a nice thick glass and has a really wide mouth so you can definitely get measuring cups in there, but I'm not inclined to recommend it without at least a really basic gasket.

Such a bummer…these would be GREAT except there is no gasket on the lid so it does not seal to protect what's IN the jar. I was looking for gallon-sized jars for food storage. This lid just rests on top of the jar…like it would easily fall off if the jar was tipped…never mind that it doesn't seal the jar to maintain the freshness of whatever you store inside. I was going to keep them cos they were cheap (price-wise), but the more i think about it i realize i should return them and try again. I really need something that makes a seal when closed. 

These storage jars are pretty tho. And well-constructed. They do not feel cheap and the glass is not thin, like if you bumped it it would shatter (tho it is glass, so it might). Just be aware they do not provide an air-tight seal.

Do Not Buy for food! I bought this trash for homemade dog food. After using it for weeks I notice the rim is chipped. Where did the glass shards go??? Did I feed glass to my dog???? I am so angry and frightened for my dog! Anchor Hocking used to be a trusted name for sturdy glassware. No more. I will never trust this brand again for feeding myself and loved ones. This is very dangerous!!
