I have used Animalintex for many years for various issues like swelling, abscesses, and soreness. Recently I have been using the precut hoof size dressing and what a game changer this is. My horse has been battling an abscess and these have made it so easy to change his bandage every day. Other poultices can be very messy and get everywhere. Not these! I soak the pads in warm water for a few minutes prior and they are ready to go. The pads are also not very thick so I was able to place it inside a boot so my horse could have the benefits of the poultice while being protected by a boot. These are a must have!

Great easy to use product

I was first turned on to Animalintex while working at a farm in the UK, where it was used for everything - with good reason!  I use it wet for treating scratches, mud fever, dew poisoning, etc. (the only thing I've found to be 100% effective - it may take a day or two of continuous bandaging, but it's well worth it!)  Wash legs ONCE then bandage with wet poultice and don't rinse afterward!  (You'll have to wrap it lightly with gauze to hold it in place under a standing bandage, sheet-cotton-and-vet-wrap, or polo.) It is also great for drawing hoof abscesses and thrush (even good for white line.)  Use wet after soaking foot and bandage, then switch to dry after the abscess has drained.   It is great on wounds, and can be used wet or dry - depending on the type of wound - to speed healing and prevent infection.  If you switch to the dry application at the right time, it will help prevent all or most proud flesh (off-label use with cortisone ointment over the granulation tissue works great.) The list goes on.  I just can't say enough great things about this product. The only drawbacks are that it is expensive and the dimensions of the pad are awkward, but if you can work around that, this will become your favorite go-to product for all of your first-aid needs!

my #1 must have product!!!

My thoroughbred went through a long series of abscesses due to a large crack and subsequent hole in his hoof that had collected debris in his racing days. The hoof-shaped pads were convenient and really seemed to help draw out abscesses when they popped through his sole (at the white line). I would clean his hoof well and put one on under a diaper wrapped with vet wrap then duct tape, and when I took off the dressing there would be a big black spot right on the pad where the abscess was. I've tried a lot of different abscess remedies from commercially prepared to homemade, and this was my favorite because you don't have to use anything sticky or that discolors the hoof so it stays clean, doesn't attract barn aisle dust, and makes it easy to re-assess once the bandage is off.

Great for Abscesses

Last spring, my TB seemed to have an abscess every other week and he's NOT a fan of soaking his hoof. After he destroyed a set of cross ties, a friend recommended these hoof pads. What a difference! Just soak the pad, apply, wrap, and wait for it to work. Thankfully, we haven't had to deal with as many abscesses this year but when he did come in three-legged lame, these things had him sound again within a day.

Tack trunk staple!

When I first found this product: my friend's horse had been hit by a drunk driver. No one found the horse until it was too late to stitch up the wounds & my friend had been instructed to keep the wounds clean and moist. I got this product, took it to my friend's house & we wrapped it in the wound. THE POULTICE PULLED OUT AN INCREDIBLE AMOUNT OF GUNK! With repeated use of this product, the huge wound healed up-the only evidence left is a small scar. I immediately bought more to stock my own first aid kit with!

100% WONDERFUL!

I bought these to have on hand "just in case".  My horse was fine until Christmas Eve bed check, when he could hardly put any weight on his front left.  I suspected an abscess.  After I soaked the poultice in hot water and used it with an Easy Boot  he was walking fine in a few hours!!

Easy to use and worked great!

I had a horse with a horrible 3 legged lame abscess.  This went on for weeks.  I had the vet out, soaking, packing etc.  Completely frustrated, I tried this product.  I wrapped this size around the entire hoof.  Remember he was non weight bearing for days at this point.  The next morning he was lame yet weight bearing.  Applied another hot pad and wrapped with diaper and duct tape.  Completely sound 8 hours later.  I will never be without this as long as I have this horse.

Worth the $

I live in a area we're we are prone to hoof abbesses my OTTB does not have the best so she tends to get bad ones. My vet was concerned about my mares abscess opening at the coronary band so he recommend this stuff and whoa was I amazed!!!! 3 days with this stuff and it opened!!! Instead of it leaving a huge hole a very tiny slit opened and this stuff is helping it drain. Best stuff ever!!!!

Amazing stuff

Although this item is a bit pricey, it's my go to for abscesses because it is so easy to use, especially in the winter when soaking may not be an option.  I like the full size rather than just the hoof pad so that I can get up near the coronet as well as the heel which is where they tend to drain.

My Go-To for Abscesses

I bought these for a horse suffering a hoof abcess. Followed the directions exactly, and it didn't do a thing. Epsom salt is cheaper to use, easier, and works better.

Didn't do anything
