Anne of Green Gables: The Complete Four-Part Collection DVD -  Few Canadian television productions have culled the degree of acclaim earned by writer-producer-director Kevin Sullivan's ongoing adaptations of Lucy Maud Montgomery's Anne novels. Sullivan began in 1985, with the two-part CBC miniseries ANNE OF GREEN GABLES, starring then 17-year-old Megan Follows and the legendary Colleen Dewhurst; in addition to a weekly series (ROAD TO AVONLEA), the 1985 production generated three follow-ups: the miniseries ANNE OF AVONLEA (1987), the miniseries ANNE OF GREEN GABLES: THE CONTINUING STORY (2000), and the 2 1/2-hour feature ANNE OF GREEN GABLES: A NEW BEGINNING (2008). Each of the four installments (in line with Montgomery's original novels) dramatize events from the life of a young, talkative and energetic orphan girl, and her adventures coming of age on a farm located on Canada's Prince Edward Island. This box set presents all four installments in the main Anne series (GREEN GABLES, AVONLEA, CONTINUING STORY and NEW BEGINNING) as they originally aired on Canadian television, complete and uncut. The massive ensemble cast includes not only Follows and Dewhurst, but the late Richard Farnsworth (THE GREY FOX), Barbara Hershey, and Shirley MacLaine.

I always like this series and with a DVD I can watch it whenever I want and restart it whenever I'm ready and I don't have to search all over the TV menu to try and find it

Our special needs daughter just loves these DVD's. I read some of the negative reviews before I ordered them but the box set we got is in perfect working order.

Great movies

Love, love, love this series.  It gets your attention and keeps you there.  If you're a fan of Jane Austin or the Christy movies you should try this series as well.  They are family friendly Entertainment, you don't have to worry about little ones hearing or seeing something they should not.

I love, love, love the Anne of Green Gables series. This is a great movie for the whole family. I originally bought it when PBS was doing a telethon and it was on VHS. Then the 3rd video came out. Now I wanted to get it on DVD so I picked up this series. It's just a great film to watch, I'm not great fan of the 3rd video, I think they could have went more in line with the books and I haven't watched the 4th Dvd yet but the first 2 are awesome:)

Great mini series for the whole family

This product is exactly as described and no one could beat the price! I read reviews of this product and it is exactly as stated. Due to the age of the original movie production some of the sound is muffled in a few places and there is some pixelation or areas not having crystal clear picture, but nothing that ruined my viewing experience. I love this series and Megan Follows is such an amazing actress as Anne!

Great Price for the entire DVD boxed set!

we had not seen this series prior to purchase but read some varied reviews on it (their are a few boxed sets out there) and decided on this one. most of the technical complaints with this series were based on the disc quality and skipping not working. my copy had not issues with that. the sound level was down a bit but that may have more to do with my old player than the discs themselves although i don't think that this series has been remastered to bring it up to current standards.

although a period piece, it's location and subject matter do not make it hard watching for children and the adults can surely follow and enjoy the story lines and characters without becoming bored and the emphasis on morality and positive thought/outlook is not preachy in any way.

i personally enjoyed the writing and the acting throughout the series except for the last disc which had none of the actors of the series (everyone was "grown up" or dead) and dealt with some issues that seemed to run counter to the other discs. it probably would have been more enjoyable as a stand alone movie with a different title instead of an "Ann.." title. (obvious cash in on the franchise name as the Anne series was immensely popular in it's home country of Canada)

take into consideration the length of the series, it's quality and price you have a pretty fair deal in this offering

good family series

Box which contained the DVD was damaged on two corners. Not all DVD were able to launch from the Power DVD software.
Would have preferred to pick it up from the store for two reasons: speed of obtaining it and control over the condition of the storage box. when paying full price, I want it to be in new looking condition.

In the New Beginning DVD (not written by Montgomery), Anne is portrayed as someone who told many LIES growing up, instead of someone with who would suggest better names for things and places; a clear departure from Montgomery's character.

A good gift for any ann fan

I was researching this DVD series because I love it! I chose the trilogy and received it but I a also looked at the 4 DVD set and opted against it for the trilogy yet it was sent to me and charged to my account! I will say returning it was simple! I took it to walmart and they offered me cash or reimbursement on my card. Couldn't have been easier to fix.
