this rack is very easy to assemble and to install. Place my 2 MTB's on it and the rack stand nice and firm. I did use the bolt to attach the stand to the wall, but even without this the stand was very stable. This is a great product and I'm considering buying a second one for two other bicycles I have.

Needs to be secured to something or it will tip over. So, not really 'free standing'.
