For those who have an iPhone or iPad. An Apple TV is a great addition. What's to like? About an Apple TV? If you have a smart tv and a streaming service such as Sling TV and  a HDMI external speaker connected to your tv you will be able to use the Apple TV remote control for all your streaming  TV functions.  TV on/off, volume/mute and channel guides and changes.   With Sling TV accessing local channels (ABC,NBC,…) will still require your TV remote for some functions.

Great streaming device even if you already have a smart TV.  I have a new smart TV which can do most of what Apple TV.  The key difference is Apple TV maintains updates and its user interface is easier to use than smart TVs.  It's what Apple TV does year after year!   The Apple TV, 3rd generation is a well oiled device that works very well with my audio video receiver and TV.  It has a power cable and a HDMI out - very simple.  It has very high quality video and audio.  The interface is easy to use and the hand held remote fits nicely in the hand.  It has voice recognition as well as point and click functions making it easy to find the shows you want “across multiple apps” which is very handy.

One of the best streaming devices even for smart T

Like most Apple products, there are less expensive alternatives available, but nothing gives me the same product experience as an Apple TV does.

The ability to use AirPlay, the performance of it, the remote, the way it integrates into my house, it's all top notch.

There's a reason I own three of these things, honestly.

Well worth the price premium

I got the 64gb version with only Wifi and I'm in love with Apple now. Does everything great from Netflix, Plex, HDHomerun, Tablo, Channels DVR, and anything else I have thrown at it. I also have an Nvidia Shield TV and Apple TV 4k has made me forget about it. No Ads!!! Which is something Nvidia used to do. Kudo's to Apple for not having ads. I believe it faster as well. I did try a game and connected my Xbox controller to with no problem. I didn't buy it for gaming but worked great. Didn't check to see how gaming steaming service worked as I have a Xbox X and wouldn't use this for gaming anyway. It's just my new go to for TV, DVR, and streaming apps as it just works great. I will now probably just sell my Shield TV as I see no need for it anymore . Apple TV all the way for me.

Awesome and better than my Shield TV.

Love this thing! All of my fire sticks just stopped working but I needed some device to stream NBA games (league pass and app not available on smart tv). I can type search things with my phone or connect my beats to hear the tv audio. Great purchase and fit seamlessly with my home hook up. No regrets.

My Samsung tv's been super glitchy and laggy loading apps. I had a Roku stick but it almost just as slow loading into apps like Netflix and MAX.. This apple TV changed the game and I'm able to load the game on with no problem! I know it's pricey, but saved me a ton of money from replacing an expensive TV instead!

No need to upgrade my tv!

easy to setup and it doesnt come with a hdmi cable. if you have an iphone it quite easy to connect to wifi and navigate. Alot of great 3rd part apps. love the home automation and that was easy to setup . Love the free trials. Would buy again for my other tvs

Must have for apple ecosystem

I find the Apple TV to be the most reliable and stable for this type of device and this is the 3rd one I have purchased. I am only deducting the stars I did due to it not being more clearly stated that not all tv's are compatible with all features. 

Apparently the tv I bought this for will not recognize the on/off signal. Which means having to use two remotes to use this on that tv. The tv isn't old and other Apple tv's have worked on even older tvs I have. So there is some specific feature a tv must have in the HDMI connection/port for the on/off signal to work and in my research I haven't found a very quality listing on which tvs do not have this so that you can plan your purchase. 

So before buying I would definitely search for verification your intended tv supports this feature. If  it does then this is the best option in my opinion. 

If your tv is not supported then pretty much any other brand of streaming box has more universal application.

Research your tv for compatibility first.

I'm constantly adjusting it along with my OLED tv to attain best picture. Seem like since I installed it the picture quality has diminished somewhat. Sports on prime, peacock and apple   have improved however, less jumpy and glitchy which is why I purchased it. Overall I recommend it and I must say the remote control which came with it is the best ever, Best feature of the entire purchase.

This device must be defective. When we watch YouTube and other apps it goes in and out. We even changed the HDMI cord. The videos glitch, come back faded and grey. Very disappointing it's not even a year old an it started happening earlier than this review.
