I've had the lock installed for close to two years, and it works very well, and integrated flawlessly with Alexa for voice commands and routines. 

My favourite feature is the auto-unlock. The lock opens when I'm walking up to the door. I don't use the auto-lock feature, however it is available. 

The lock installs on the inside of the door, and is 'renter friendly'. I needed only a screwdriver and an extra pair of hands.

I purchased rechargeable batteries, and the app alerts when batteries need to be changed. My lock is on the exterior door of an unheated entryway, in Canada, and rhe lock worked well for the past two winters, (with more frequent battery changes).

I have given custom entry permission to family and a pet sitter. The pet sitter is scheduled to be allowed entry on certain dates during certain times. My son is always allowed entry.

August Smart Lock is the best I've come across. I have three of them, making this one my fourth. The price for this version is the least expensive I've seen.

Make your Dumb Deadbolt Smart!

We had the 3rd Gen and upgraded to this one and have been very pleased.  The wifi connection has been rock solid and the overall ergonomics of the lock are much improved.  The knob itself is noticeably smaller than the 3rd gen, and feels much better in use.  We are glad we upgraded.

Worth the Upgrade from Earlier August Models

I’m a big tech guy, so a product has to have a real wow factor to impress me.  After reading many reviews like this one, I took a leap of faith and purchased a August lock for my new home build.  The setup was super easy, the fit and function is perfect. I had the lock installed and set up in 15 mins.   I was concerned about the Geo fence, but I have to say,  9 times out of 10 my door is unlocking as I walk up to it.

Great advances in lock systems

We received an August Wi-Fi Smart Lock as a gift about a year ago and liked it so much we just purchased on as a gift for our daughter.  We use it all the time but it has been most helpful when we've been out of town to allow our neighbor to put packages in our house.

Great Lock!

This is my second smart lock from August; my first was their 1st generation and I love it.  This 2nd generation is even better; smaller, more compact, was easy to install, and works super well.  The matte black matches my doorknobs and fixtures... all positives from me!

Love it!  2nd generation even better than the 1st

The lock was as easy to install and setup as was advertised, which is often not the case. I have an old wooden door and was unsure if the lock would fit correctly inside, but the package included an extra oversized plate that worked great and also looks good on the door. The Wifi setup and lock settings were some of the easiest I've ever done. So far, the remote open/close of the lock has worked quickly and reliably. It's a well engineered product.

Works as advertised

This is my second August Smart lock replacing the original 1st Gen with the August Connect. 

This is, by far, the upgrade I've been waiting for. It has WiFi built in, about 1/2 the foot print, and still maintains quality metal workmanship.

My dings are because the lock doesn't use the same color coding for the bolt fitments that the original did nor is the lock as forgiving when using the possibly wrong piece and the online instructions do not explain well-enough what may be causing the lock not to function properly. Also, the batteries selected for this device means even more batteries I have to ensure are on hand since they are only expected to last 6 months versus 1 year on AA's for the original.

The robustness of the original I mentioned in comparison - it is likely I chose the wrong bolt insert for my lock on the original even though it looked closest to my bolt pin. The lock calibration let me get the lock working completely within seconds. This new one is very particular and, while the lock might work when operated manually, it will fail to open/close completely if you choose the wrong insert...and the insert that works may look NOTHING like the one you would expect. This was the case for me and the frustration almost had me sending the device back until I decided to try all the lock inserts to see what would happen. I am glad I did.

Many steps forward and one step back

Love how it works but do wish you could set the range for the auto-unlock/lock functions.  Currently set at 200m and that is way further away when you live in an urban environment
 and sometimes have to circle the block for parking spots.  I'd rather have it so it unlocks when I am physically closer to the lock.

Overall Nice but a Few Upgradesq

There’s room for improvement. Lock won’t always detect my phone when arriving home and not always opens. Luckily it opens 30% of the time. Yes, checked everything from Bluetooth, open app, etc. But this should not stop it from working. It should work regarding all the steps: you have the app? Ok I open. That would be a “good item for the price “

Good but not great

I have a few issues.  

One - not having an exterior control is annoying.  I used to have a key pad and now I am forced to use a deadbolt with my August lock.  The way the controls work, I am constantly locked out and forced to unlock with my phone or a key.  I wish there was a lock and unlock button on the front.  

Two - leads me to my second issue.  The Auto Unlock requires you to leave a certain perimeter before it engages.  I use the auto lock (because I can’t lock it from the outside without getting out a key or phone) and so if I take the garbage out or run to my car, it auto locks but then can’t auto - unlock.  I with I could set the perimeter radius myself but I can’t.  Or I wish the autolock worked based on the same radius.

Three - the autolock is not very intelligent.  It is just on a timer and then locks.  For me, it locks when the door is open, which is super annoying. Then my young kid tries to close the door and the deadbolt slams into the frame.  Again, locking based on distance away would be better.  

Overall, I regret buying this lock.  But it was pretty expensive, I already installed it, and I threw out the packaging long ago.  So I guess I’m stuck.

Nice in some ways, but no where near good enough
