I absolutely love this brand of Blu-ray players. I've had great experiences and reliability with the brand. Overall this is a quality item. Just an FYI, pay close attention to the description of this model. I made the mistake of not doing so and realized this model doesn't have built in wifi upon arrival, it's a hardline ethernet port connection.

Bought this product a month ago.  Very easy to set up.  The instructions were easy to understand even for an old dude like me.  You can't beat a Sony product.  My first stereo was a Sony bought in 1971.  Still works and I can still play my classic vinyl.

My Blu Ray was bought at Best Buy.

This is the third BDPS1700 machine I've set up.   I hope it works.   The first two did not.  My wife is bringing a new BluRay disc home and I'll try it and see if I have to make a 4th call.  I hope I don't.   When this machine functions properly, it's awesome.   Unfortunately, the last two have not continued to work as designed and I've had to return them for a free exchange.   Sony has been awesome.  The machine has not been.

Hope third time a charm

I have an internet supplied by Spectrum and it works well with my other wired and wireless devices but I can not get it to connect to my Blu-ray Disc. I have a LAN cable (CAT 5e) connected from the Spectrum box to the Blu-ray box. But it won't let me get a connection to the internet and consequently I can't use the futures that require a network connection.

I can't get it to recognize my network.

Just now set the Sony Blu-ray Disc Player BDP-S1700.  Cable connections to TV and AV receiver were easy and I was able to play a DVD fairly quickly.  Audio and video quality are great.  But remote does not control TV Volume and wireless network connection doesn't work either.  Sony needs to provide better online setup help.  This is the 21st century, everyone expects wireless integration.

This is adequate...Just...Has a problem with home made DVD's...Burned on Macs...Should have known...The two companies can't play nice together...Once inserted...It shows as "no disc"...Drawer won't open...Finally unplugged the power supply multiple times till it did...I'd return it but it was a gift...

You really do get what you pay for...

There are no external buttons on the machine to push in order to operate without the remote.  We had the machine for a month when the batteries stop working.   Make sure you have plenty of batteries and don't lose the remote.  Without a working remote, the machine is worthless.

Remote controlls all

I received the BDP-S1700 as an Anniversary Gift from work. I've used it 3 times and on the 3rd time I get a msg that states "[Eject] key is currently unavailable. To enable, cancel Child Lock Mode. I went on the Sony website and tried the fix that they have with no luck. I've recently tried to do a system software update hoping that would fix the problem but the internet download fails as well as trying to use the USB port to update. I've seen online that this is a common problem with this model. 
If it worked I think it'd be a great product as I like what it had to offer however having problems with only using it 3 times & seeing so many posts of other people having the same problem if frustrating. I'm writing this in case anyone is thinking of purchasing the product and is doing their research.

Not a good product

My husband purchased this product only six days ago and managed to watch one movie. After purchasing another 4 brand new movies we find the player has stopped working completely, failing to recognize even the BD we had originally watched. After updating the firmware, pouring through the customer support pages (243 posts) in total, we realize we purchased poor workmanship at best. My suggestion is steer clear of this product.

My first one, bought in April 2016, died while on warranty. The second one, sent by you a couple of weeks ago, is erratic (i.e., will announce "no disc" while the disc is inside, will require unplugging and replugging, etc)
