I thought it was simple to set up.  Connect the track, making sure the rails are in the joiners, connect the power wire to the transformer, plug in the other end into the track. Last, plug the transformer into the wall.  Turn the dial and the train goes!   The train and cars are decent, and I like the blue and yellow paint scheme for a freight train (for Santa Fe).  Enjoyed seeing it go around on the track.  Very satisfied.  My cat was very interested, but eventually got used to it and went on to other things.
