Wow! I was so impressed from the beginning when I received the 4 shipping boxes.  Everything was so neatly packed and labeled as to which parts were in which box.  This helped in assembling with the easy to follow instructions.  The first day was spent putting together all the parts, because most of the long pieces had to be assembled before they could be put together as a pergola.  The next day, two neighbors helped me put together the support frame and then everything else was a one man job.  I was amazed at the quality of the material and its finish.  The precision by which the bolts screwed into the nuts was outstanding.  I have never assembled anything with so much accuracy.  There was never a time where something didn't fit together perfectly.  Since it has been up, I installed a wet rated ceiling fan with light and plan to add additional smaller lights to create a warm atmosphere.  We will spend many days and nights in our outdoor retreat.  Couldn't be happier.

We couldn't be more happier with our Steel Pergola.  We decided to upgrade to steel due to the hot summers here in Texas and the zero maintenance.  Assembly was very straight forward and was easy to follow with the instructions provided on the BILT app. You will definitely need 2 people for this job and possibly a 3rd when your ready to attach the top beams to the posts. Very sturdy and well made. The electrical box is a great plus as well. We are extremely happy with our pergola and look forward to enjoying it for years to come.

Best Pergola on the market

We have assembled several gazebos over the past few years and this one was by far the easiest to put together. The sail shade is nice, though we did have to add some grommets around the eege to help secure it down with bungee cords- the wind kept blowing it off. The buckle straps it comes with are pretty slick and slide out of the buckles pretty easily. It's perfect now though! Couldn't be happier.

Everything about the purchase of this pergola was excellent. It arrived exactly as we expected, very neatly labeled and packed well. Putting it together with the help of a couple of neighbors, took four hours or so. Not one screw or bolt or nut was missing. Highly recommend, this company and this product . We like the soft shade so much that we've ordered an extra to keep on hand

Absolutely perfect

The reviews are spot on!! This pergola is amazing!! My husband and son put it together with some help from one other person in one afternoon. The company has first class cut iner service. I've called several time with questions and each time I was able to talk with a representative very quickly and treated with A+ customer service. Our pergola arrived in 2 weeks in perfect condition.

Love our Ashford  pergola!!

This pergola had been out of stock for some time. I had been looking around at other options. Before I decided on something else I checked stock again on this pergola. Am I ever glad I did. It was back in stock and I ordered right away. Arrived in four large, heavy boxes. A little overwhelming to see all the parts. When time to assemble came I followed the BILT app which is a great help. Due to my own bad judgment a couple of parts were damaged. I called Backyard Discovery to place an order for replacement parts and to my surprise they said “things happen and there will be no charge to replace the parts.” The parts arrived very quickly and I was able to complete the build. Definitely need 3 if not 4 people to help at certain points. Great customer service and a pleasure to deal with. Thanks for a great product.

16 x 12 Pergola

Shipping was prompt, especially given that the pergola required freight delivery.  All the parts were well packed and protected.  The hardware for assembly was on blister pack cards and easily identifiable.  The designers did a good job limiting the variety of fasteners used.  We assembled the pergola ourselves and did not find it particularly difficult - it's an erector set for adults :>)  We are happy with the appearance of the pergola.  One suggestion:  the screen for the top is anchored only at the corners.  We live in a fairly windy area and another attachment in the center of each of the longer sides would help to dampen the amount of "flapping around" that occurs when it's windy out.  The screen is necessary for proper shading since the joists and purlins are spaced about a foot apart.

Very pleased with one suggested improvement

We got off to a rough start with some shipping damage. A torn carton allowed some paint scuffing and a small dent.  Customer Service said they would send us some touch-up paint (more on that later) and we determined the dent would be hidden by another part, so we were good to go.

Packaging:  Aside from the minor damage, the packaging was genius.  Parts were distributed among the four cartons to leave no unused space.  That meant very little packaging material to dispose of later.  Every part was individually bagged with a printed part number on the bag which matched the instructions.  The MANY pieces of hardware were bubble packed making it easy to keep organized. This was done right.

Instructions:  They were very clear and detailed.  The drawings were accurate.  I especially appreciated the dimensioning scheme for the base plates.  It made it easy to lay out the location and square it up before anchoring.

Quality Design and Manufacturing:  To my surprise all the screws had machine screw threads. (No sheet metal screws.)  The thin gauge parts had threaded inserts and the heavier parts were pierced and tapped.  No problems getting screws started.  Another nice touch was the T30 Torx drive.  They even included some T30 bits for the impact driver.  I still can't believe how easy it all went together.  EVERYTHING FIT.  I didn't have to fight to get holes aligned.

Customer Service:  When we called for the touch-up paint, we were told it would go out right away.  That was for sure.  We were amazed how quickly it arrived.  It felt pretty good getting that kind of attention.

The only thing that would have made this 5 stars would have to made the height taller. I'm 5'4 and I can touch the frame. My son is 6'1 and feels like he has to avoid hitting his head. We are putting 5” blocks under each pole to raise it up to a better height.

Great addition

I would give this 4 stars but none of the description or reviews mentioned that the electrical box would need an extension cord to operate or to be professionally installed.  It seems kind of obvious now but it is useless to us until we hire an electrician.

Easy to install, no extra pieces so if you loose a cap or something you won't have extras.  Looks great!
