Over the past few years I have been learning new and interesting "self-sufficiency" projects. Last fall, while processing apples, I had a lot of extra peels leftover. After looking up ideas for using them I came across articles about making apple peel vinegar. This set looked to be a good tool for creating such thing.  It certainly was! I liked it so much I ordered a second set and am currently making homemade sauerkraut. While I have not tried it yet, I also believe the lids would work well for storing sourdough starter.  No issues or complaints at this time.

I like that this product took away a problem for me learning how to ferment a food for the first time. The spring helped eliminate the fear of my batch going bad from food rising into the headspace. The lid took away the worry of releasing the gases properly. That combination made it easier for me to actually attempt to make my fermented pickles for the very first time.

Easy for beginners.

Love it. The seller also sells on  eBay with even greater prices. Thanks. I use some of the lids for homemade wine.

I love the plastic lids and the spiral keeps the veggies down for complete fermenting.

Great for Fermenting veggies

I have only used to make sauerkraut and I will never buy sauerkraut again!!! It was sooo easy to make with this kit. I have purchased some for family members to give it a try. They all have liked it also!

I love the lids I don't love the “springs” so much. Bits still get through the spring and are not fully submerged under the liquid. But the lids are great. 
They come as a package deal so if you want the super fabulous lids you have to purchase the not so great springs.

Lids are great, springs are not

I've used 3 or 4 different fermentation kits (the bubblers, the vacuum lids  (several variations), and these) and these by far are the simplest and most usable ones I've ordered. I use the springs with pickling/fermentation weights and cheesecloth and it's worked perfectly for all my fermentation projects. I own more of these than any other kind and keep going back for more. I highly recommend these to anyone doing fermenting.

Good quality, highly usable, and consistent

This was my first attempt at fermentation, so I decided to buy these because they have great reviews for beginners. The lids work perfectly! The springs, however, are very strong. Like other reviews, they crushed my cucumber pickles. After I was done fermenting, I tested the pressure using my kitchen scale. If you compress the spring down to about 3 inches, it's exerting about 5.5 lbs of pressure! Glass pickle weights are only about 7 oz. I would recommend that you only use the springs for very firm veggies or sauerkraut since the shape doesn't matter.

The lids work great, but...

Product is great. However, shipping carrier Fed Ex was horrible. They kept my package for a week and then I finally had to go pick it up from them. Please change shipping carriers to UPS. Much more reliable. Even Amazon quit using Fed Ex.

not what I expected at all, have no use for these and did not complete refund in time, maddening, but that is my fault.  i do not go into "my" Walmart store regularly but use their convenient drive up service.  is there any way to receive a,credit for this product? Never used in original packaging.  TU
