[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This product is not like other Barbie's, it's more of a collector or show piece. The box was beautiful and when you take the cover off the box, it opens up to a Barbie wrapped in Tissue. When you open the tissue and ribbon yo find a beautifully dressed Barbie. The Barbie is very delicate so be careful removing from the box. My daughter played with the Barbie for a short while and then decided she would like to put the Barbie on display. We will enjoy the Barbie for years to come.

After 20 years of being regaled by the Barbie Fashion Model Collection, designed by Robert Best for Mattel, we're getting close to the end. For the line that brought back the Barbie doll's 1959 sculpt to a rarefied world of fashion, heavy on references to haute couture, will soon become part of the doll's history.

"Best to a Tea" is the second doll being offered this year and like her sister "Best in Black", she is an enchanting presence. Dressed in a Channel-inspired suit, the black Barbie doll has vivid make-up that pops-out from under the black tulle veil of a fascinator hat with fuchsia blooms. Although the doll and fashion ensemble are designed to be a total look, this beautiful iteration of the Barbie doll is versatile and will be a favorite among collectors for redressing. I added two classic BFMC cuff bracelets that are not part of the production doll.

As the line's trajectory reaches it's conclusion, it's important to point out that its evolution has maintained a sense of coherence due to Best's vision. At the same time, one must consider the effect that market forces and manufacturing challenges have had on the realization of Best's designs. What was possible in 2000 seems not to be possible in 2020. A line that was predicated on bringing back the details of the Barbie doll's heyday under the direction of Charlotte Johnson, is, 20 years later, making adaptations that divert from its original philosophy. For "Best to a Tea's" undeniable loveliness brings the use Velcro closures to the skirt, blouse and belt. Perhaps a decision made to reduce the bulk created by metal snaps, yet, one that is readily associated with other lines in lower price points. Not that Velcro closures have not been used before in the BFMC ("Boater Ensemble's" halter blouse comes to mind), but in "Best to a Tea", it feels normalized.

This said, "Best to a Tea" is an afternoon delight of sorts, more so now that we collectors know that there's only two more dolls before the Barbie Fashion Model Collection ceases production.

Thank you, Robert Best and Mattel, for 20 years of steadfast dedication to beauty.

"Tea Time"

I was pleasantly surprised on how much I actually like this doll, especially after reading the negative reviews. I did take off 1 star due to the cheap clothing and accessories. The BFMC line is for adult collectors yet they include Velcro, unlined clothing, and shoes used for the playline dolls.
The quality of her body is usual for the articulated silkstones. Her joints are tight, the seams are fairly visible, etc. Her facial screening is perfect on both of the dolls I purchased. It reminds me of the original silkstones.
Her clothing has no flaws except those I listed above. I had planned to redress her, but in person she looks gorgeous as is! Overall Best to a Tea is a beautiful doll with the small detraction of having playline quality clothing.

The doll is beautiful and I wish there was more diversity in the Silkstone collection overall. The outfit is cute, but honestly will just sit in my Barbie wardrobe while I dress up the beautiful doll in more exciting outfits. A lot of people seemed disappointed in the quality of the garments, but they seem sturdy enough to me and made sense with the price point. Not the most exciting way to bring an end to the Silkstone collection, but good overall. 7/10

Cute addition to the collection.

My first silkstone and disappointed that the clothing would have velcro, especially on the lace blouse. The trim/ruffle down the front was sewn on crooked and is quite visibly off centre. I thought with the silkstone line, the clothing was supposed to be very good quality? Doll is beautiful, love her hair especially but will keep the clothing quality in mind going forward if purchasing another silkstone.

Doll beautiful, clothes quality lacking

When I saw the sketch for this doll, I was very excited. She looked pretty, chic, and smart. I didn't understand why the reviews were so polarizing, but after getting her, I can see why.
The overall impression that I get from this doll is that it's incomplete. The clothes seem like they are samples and not a finished design. Her accessories are lacking and the ones that are there are not eye catching; they don't add to the outfit. I ended up taking off the gloves (more like mittens) and was pleasantly surprised to see pink fingernails to match her makeup. Her face is fresh and bright and her pink hair accessory would have been even more interesting if the pink would have carried through in the rest of the ensemble. Even some more statement jewelry would have been a nice touch. 

Overall, the doll is nice, but not up to the quality I've seen in other fashion dolls like this. It's a shame, because she's a really lovely Doll and she wasn't given enough attention.

She's lovely

I begrudgingly ordered this because I knew the BFMC was coming to an end and I didn't want to regret not having her later. She's a really cute doll, but i do understand and agree with the negative feedback.  Having velcro on a collector doll is not acceptable.  I know it seems like such a petty thing to complain about.  But it speaks to the quality of the garment. The fabric feels cheap and isn't lined.  Her blouse is transparent with no undergarment. The hat isn't actually a hat, which means she can't be re-dressed. All are small quality details that collectors of this line are accustomed to be top notch.

She's just a pretty doll

The doll itself is beautifully made and well constructed.  Though I love the Channel inspired concept, the jacket and skirt both look fragile and the velcro closure kind of cheapens the look which was a little disappointing. Lining could have made it more sturdier as well as contributed to the overall look along with the use of hook closures.

Gorgeous Doll

Sigh.... I wanted to love this doll but sadly she missed the mark.  I have so many beautiful collector dolls by Robert Best but have not purchased a collector doll in over a year.  What is going on Mattel???  Get back to your roots and start designing and creating beautiful collector dolls and I will start purchasing again!

So very disappointed

She's great if you're a NRFB collector. Otherwise, a waste of money. Playline quality outfit with Velcro, hair is an uneven choppy mess in the back, left arm can't bend, and her “hat” is nothing more than a scrunch of fabric sewn into her head. I'm thankful the BFMC is ending because it has become a cheap poor-quality disgrace. I see Collector Barbie overall going the way of the dinosaur very soon and I can't say I would be sad to see it go at this point.
