Tricky to get battery door off and add batteries.
Learning "song" settings was instant.
Learning "book" settings is something the 3-year- old and I are still learning together: Find book with icon to match pointer, wait through intro music, get to first page, turn page at signal.  First grade and above would be faster and have longer attention span for whole book.
2-volume settings are nice.
