Can be smooth and spill-free, but may struggle with neatness.

The 4 cup select is nice to have, and the carafe keeps coffee hot for just over 2 hours without using any more power than it takes to brew it. It is a good idea to run at least 7 full carafes of just water through it so you don't get that fresh out of the factory taste in your coffee.

Black + Decker Thermal Programmable 12-Cup Coffee

I love this coffee maker.I like the fact that it goes directly into the carafe,also it shuts off automatically when finished so you are not wasting electricity. My coffee/tea stays nice and hot for a long time. The price is great, this is a good buy. Haven't used the automatic settings as I don't have a need for it very often.

I love this carafe, I make a pot of coffee and go upstairs, downstairs and out to the deck, wherever I need a pot of coffee.  Stays hot for hours and even when it stays to cool off, it's still fresh (because it isn't being cooked) and can be heated in the microwave and it's great.  I love this product.

Coffee carafe is great

We bought this to replace an older model thermal coffee maker (we dropped the carafe and the spout cracked).  Thermal coffee makers keep your coffee warm without having a heating element that turns the coffee bitter, so in general I prefer this type of configuration vs. having a warming plate.  Plus it's safer and uses less electricity.  The carafe on this model has a nice wide opening, so cleaning is pretty easy.... and you can pour yourself a cup before the cycle has finished... a plus if you just can't wait.  The only negative for me personally is that if you just want to make one cup and have the coffee empty directly into your travel cup as it is being made you can't.  There is a spring loaded mechanism in the carafe that pairs up to the drip basket, so you need to have the fresh coffee go into the carafe.  The thermos does not keep the coffee as warm for as long as our previous model, but it keeps morning coffee warm enough to be enjoyed until around noon.  Works for us.  We really like it.

great value

Brew basket doesn't drain all the water (photo attached). Many coffee grinds remain in hot water and never make it to the stainless steel carafe. Sep 23, 2025 was my second purchase of this 12-cup Coffee Maker.

The first one took 3 years to cease functioning but this second one only 3 months! 

Half the brews go wrong especially when the reserve is filled more than halfway. I only liked this coffer maker for the stainless steel carafe but I won't get a third one, and would return this if I thought there was a better quality product out there.

Stainless steel carafe but Cheap brew basket

Coffee does not stay hot even if it is a thermos. I should have bought a cup warmer. But the other coffee maker's hotplate was returned to the metal, so the purchase is not useless.

Coffee maker 12 cups

Makes a good cup of coffee however the carafe is not that thick so the coffee doesn't stay hot for too long maybe 2-3 hours.  I find that I have to make another pot in the afternoon.  Be sure to remove the carafe from the base when finished to it stays warm since under the base the top is open and I find that it gets cooler faster on account of the top being open (this is the opening where the water drip down to brew the coffee).

Does not have a burner, so only stays as warm as the thermo carafe keeps it

Works good

Looks great, functions well, doesn't drip when pouring and is easy to clean. On the downside, and it's a biggie to me. Coffee is not hot enough. Perhaps it's because I'm making smaller quantities (usually 3 to 4 cups) but because being able to make smaller quantities is supposed to be a feature, I don't think that should be an issue. Conclusion… If you like your coffee piping hot, you might want to look at a different machine.
