On fast-and-light missions and smash-and-grab ascents when weight really matters, the Black Diamond Camalot Ultralight presents a 25% weight savings over the Camalot. With sculpted lobes that account for a portion of the weight savings, the Camalot Ultralight features a dyneema cord in place of a cable with all of the same strength you rely on. A double-axle design allows for the widest placement range possible for each cam device, and color coding makes for easy identification when quick pro is paramount. When light is right, the Camalot Ultralight is essential.

Weight

Weight Savings

Offers significant weight reduction without performance compromise.

Can be compact for larger sizes, but may feel less substantial in smaller ones.

When I saw the Camelot Ultralight 2nds I snatched up the full size range sans the 0.4 (would have gotten it if available!). I've had my eye on these babies for a while. I recently tested them out climbing/aiding in TN. It's fair to say I abused them enough to get a true sense of their worth. I like the semi-rigid one piece stem. I was curious how it would work in placements perpendicular to direction of pull (I try to avoid that anyway). The answer was that it worked fine and seems to retain it's shape a bit better than my C4s do, not that it has any bearing on utility. I'm not sure if there will be any difference in the lifespan of a C4 vs UL, time will tell. I suspect these cams will be with me for the long haul. Next test Indian Creek and then Looking Glass Rock!

Light and tough!

blackdiamondequipment.com

Even when comparing the weight and design of various ultralight active pro of this size, I felt that this Camelot still came out on top! I am impressed with the weight, how light it is, and it functions as beautifully as they Camelots always have. In the alpine setting, I have come to appreciate the active pro that have built in extendable springs. That preference is the only reason I would choose another type of gear.

Ultralight #4

I had a really difficult time figuring out why these were seconds. They are advertised as color blemished but the reality is that in one month the cams will be used and abused and there will be no way to tell. The weight savings alone is fantastic.

Great value

I couldn't tell the difference between past season and current. When using the cams, the ultra light was noticeably lighter than the standard c4s. Great cam!

Hooray for out of season close outs

The ultralight cams hold a special place in your trad quiver. They are worth if you want to of course go light and fast and save a bit energy and knee bashing on those long approaches. But they do not belong in your everyday cragging bag unless you want to buy new ones far too often. Overall I love them when used appropriately.

Worth it

I've been a climber since the late 90's and I've seen many iterations of Camalot. BD continues to improve, with design & function year after year. Truly the vanguard of innovation. I love my Black Diamond equipment and wouldn't have it any other way!

The best in the biz!!

UL cams are absolute must haves for any long trad climbing mission or difficult single pitch trad climbs. When the climbing gets long or hard, these are always on the rack.

Must have

I absolutely love these cams. I own the old non-ultralight versions & the weight difference on a full rack is noticeable. If you're debating between the two- go with these! The price increase is worth it in my opinion.

Ultralight >>>> everything !

This is becoming the bread and butter of my rack. Particularly for alpine climbing. Something with the head width on sizes below . 5 makes them less great in the smaller sizes but for most everything else you get a good weight savings.

This is becoming the bread

This is obviously a well-made quality cam, however not being flexible and not having an extendable sling, like for instance the Dragonfily, is making its use less common.

Handsome but stiff

These skins are very bad. Would not Recommend. First day out they immediately failed and had to be Voile strapped to finish the day. The adhesive is terrible and the tip attachment is a poor design. I have had BD skins for the past 15 years and work as a professional ski guide. I was very disappointed.
