Build your own video games with Bloxels! The innovative video game creation platform makes concepting and execution easy. Watch your game world come to life as you create and animate play spaces, characters and objects because you are the artist, game designer, storyteller, programmer, publisher AND player! The physical pieces in the Bloxels game set work with the free Bloxels Builder app to digitize your creations, put them on-screen and make them playable. Just download the FREE Bloxels Builder app to your smart device (not included) to get started. Then use the 13 x 13 Gameboard and colored blocks to design a room, create the art for game elements and bring your heroes and villains to life. When creating game rooms, each color in your design represents a different element, like terrain, water or a hazard. When working on art, the blocks represent the pixelated image. There are eight different colors and 320 blocks for lots of endless possibilities. Once you have finished adding blocks, snap a picture with the "in-app camera" to digitize your creation. On-screen test your game, edit layouts and change the colors of your art assets. The process of building the game is easy to follow, with instructions and tutorials to help beginners. From creating the map of your game to animating your characters to adding power-ups to full-on playing, you make the decisions and produce the work. When your game is ready for the world to play, post it to the Bloxels Infinity Wall to share. Fellow 13-bit builders can play your game and buy your creations to use in their own games, earning you coins. Coins you earn can be used to buy content from other players to remix within your game in new and creative ways. How will your game evolve? How will it start? What story will you tell? Get ready to get in the game -- video game development -- with Bloxels. Includes Gameboard, 320 blocks, challenge poster and instruction manual; the Bloxels Builder app is downloadable for free. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My Son got this for Christmas and absolutely loved it. I like that he can express his creativity by building his own characters, levels and story.

Great gift for future developers!

walmart.com

My granddaughter was confused as to how all the blocks could possibly become a video game. But since she's into games, it didn't take her long to figure it out. She told me she loves it after making her first little game and looks forward to making many more. Very creative and the price was right until I waited one day too long and Walmart ran out of stock and I had to buy it from the alternative site for more. But having her tell me how much she's enjoying it makes any price worth it.

So cool!

Purchased 6 sets for a classroom activity involving creative thought and problem solving. The reaction was immediate and the students couldn't wait for class every day. Students were charged with the task of designing the entire game, top to bottom, from their own ideation - they were not allowed to use anything from the Bloxels community (although a lot of that material is spectacular). The final products each student created were thoughtful, creative, and spectacular. During the process there was so much collaboration and sharing of ideas, we ended up writing a tutaorial to help future classes navigate the project. Bloxels are, quite simply, worth their value at three times the price.

Fantastic Learning Tool

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My son loves it

My husband is a video game creator and thought this was a really cool toy that was surprisingly close to building a video game in real life! We used our iPad to use the app – like another reviewer said, make sure you're in good lighting when you take the image of your boards. We didn't read the directions before jumping right in, so it was a little confusing to start, but we saw afterwards that there was a cat game they suggest you to build to familiarize yourself with the system. The COOLEST part of this is when you finish a character and a board, and play your game – it's so fun to see it work! You can edit your game from the app if you don't want to fuss with the bloxels, and you can work off other people's boards and incorporate into your own game. We can already see lots of hours in our future spent on creating, editing, and playing games within this platform.

Note - the bloxel parts are small so be careful if you have small children or pets around!

I received this product at a discounted price in return for my unbiased review.

Awesome for the kid who likes to figure things out

5 stars for creativity., but overall 4 stars due to the effort i had to put into figuring out the iphone app.

This is awesome! Imagine building video games with lego blocks...and actually easier. Just create a random design on a blackboard and it becomes an environment (called "room") in your customer video game. Similarly build characters and other special things. Each colored block means different things, so thats how you can get creative.

A suggestion - build your rooms in good light so that your mobile device camera can quickly capture the photo. The reds and the pinks are quite close in shade :-)

It took a while to fully understand the app. Make sure you spend some time getting accustomed to best use your Bloxels. It wasn't intuitive on the small screen on iphone. But cool enough to put effort to figure out :p

All in all, a fun board game. Look forward to similar products in the future. I received this product at a discounted price in return for my unbiased review.

5 stars for creativity

My grandson was very excited when he opened this gift. he immediately started creating scenes with the blocks. Since he's taken it to his house, I'm not sure if his mom has helped him get set up with the iPay app to create his own games or not.

Perhaps he'll do it himself when he's a tad older. he's 7 yrs old.

Gift for my grandson

Bought this for my 10 and 11 yr old grandsons. I think it's great because fosters creativity and learning. They didn't like it as much as I hoped because of the learning curve. They don't want to spend time learning, they want to play right out of the box and are used to playing much more sophisticated video games, not a Mario style. So for the right kids I think it's great but not for all.

Great for the Right Kids

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] You can't use this thing without paying a monthly subscription. Hello no.

This requires a SUBSCRIPTION

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a good concept but once you open the box and try to design a game it costs extra money to do that. It is misleading and sketchy.
