I bought this today because I needed to make mashed potatoes for my Shephard's Pie, and I honestly did not feel like peeling, washing, boiling and mashing potatoes. I was willing to give this a try, because the ingredients are simply "Dehydrated Potatoes." I made it these the microwave because I was happy there was a quick, one-bowl preparation method. So quick and easy! For what they are (reconstituted dehydrated potatoes) they taste pretty good! They are perfect for when I would like mashed potatoes for a side dish during the week, but do not want to go through the hassle of preparing potatoes. I have my Shephard's Pie in the oven now, and I suspect they will cook and taste like regular potatoes. I would like to buy the 25LB bulk size, but I have read that it is not the same taste or texture (read: it is worse) as the 1LB size. 

These can also be used to thicken soups, in bread, and as a breading for protein!

Great all-purpose potato flakes!

I really like these potato flakes.  I use them not just for mashed potatoes, but as a thickener for soups and stews.  They taste just like what I'd make from fresh spuds.  One little picky statement:  I'm a vegan vegetarian; the package says "vegan," but the directions tell the user to use milk and butter - this is not "vegan," but substitutes for the dairy products are quite usable.  I use vegetable broth.

NO MORE PEELING

I purchased this as the primary ingredient in a recipe experiment. I made a vegan powdered instant “cheese” sauce.  The potato flakes acted as the thickener and had the mild taste I hoped for. Looking forward to enjoying them as mashed potatoes next.

Multi use product

I can not have a lot of sodium and these instant potatoes are just perfect for me.  I use them for recipes and even to eat alone.  I can add a bit of salt or other foods that have sodium and they are delicious.  I do so appreciate companies who continue to offer products that are healthy.

I love this product.  Started using for replacement of potato flour in bread recipe; works great & for me it's more versatile than potato flour.  I add it to cream soups to thicken them & last week used to thicken chicken pot pie that I didn't add enough flour base.  It's a great product & delivery is fast.

Excellent product versatile

So quick and simple to make.  Tastes just like you boiled the potatoes yourself.  Check the ingredient list on Bob's Red Mill Potato Flakes:  Dehydrated Potatoes.  Compare that to those other brands on the supermarket shelf.  We can do without all those other ingredients.  We make sure we always have plenty in the pantry.

I love 'em! Bob's doesn't add ANYTHING extra to their potato flakes. Read the ingredients: Dehydrated Potatoes. That's it! The others add stuff like mono & diglycerides from palm or other oils. Sulfites, too. And myriad of other additives "to preserve freshness". 
These turn out fluffy and perfect every time.  Try stirring in some cream cheese, shredded cheddar or sour cream with chives. So glad I found Bob's Red Mill!

The Best Healthy Foods in the Business!

I bought this to make mashed potatoes, and it was important to me to avoid preservatives or added salt. Unfortunately after following the directions I ended up with a gluey gray mess. The texture was not appetizing at all.  Since I bought 4 packages I'll try using them as breading or to make potato bread.
