Ease Of Use

Durability

Build Quality

Work in the flooring industry. This is great for measurements. I typically use it 4-5 times a week. In clients homes with a ton of furniture sometimes there is no way I would be able to use a tape measure without the client helping me. The BOSCH laser makes it easy to have a conversation with the client and measure with ease. In the 2 years I have used it the batteries have died twice. I keep spare batteries in the car.

2 years great experience

boschtools.com

I'm only writing this review to help out anybody who like me, absent mindedly measures to the front of the unit, instead of the back, and does a search on why it's 4" off. I've had this for about 3 years and like it. Yesterday it kept adding 4" to the measurement. Now you know why. I have the same complaints as others. 1. The fractions are too small 2. You can't adjust it to read to the nearest 1/8, or 1/16th, it reads to 32nds. 3. The laser can't be seen in direct sunlight.

Adding 4" to the measurement?

Bought the glm165 for measuring crown moldings. The one thing that takes practice is holding it perfectly still when taking measurements. It would be nice if there was some sort of dampening feature on it. You can create an error of a quarter inch and not even know it.

Easy to use

I have used this a lot since 2023. The back is dated July 2022. It's very reliable and I've only changed the batteries one time. The only downside is that I'm a landscape designer and I use it outside a lot. It's often difficult to see the laser outside unless I'm pointing it to the shade. If I'm working in the sun, I have to measure the old-fashioned way.

Works well for landscape design

Nice tool for sure.. I was disappointed that you cannot select the resolution of the measurement to round to 1/8 for example. Telling me a window is 21 11/32 wide is not helpful, while telling me it is 21 3/8 would be great! So, adjusting resolution to the application would be a win. Also the fractions are small and hard to read.

Nice - but can use some refinement

I bought a Bosch Blaze 165-22. The tool is great. But the instructions really suck. I've had the laser measure for 2 months. I can't figure out how to 1. Erase memory, 2. subtract measurements, 3. Use any other features other than measuring because instructions don't tell you how to use it. I like this tool. I think I'd love it and give it a 5 star rating if the directions were available.

Instructions???

After light use (which I was happy with the features and performance of), my laser won't work after only 19 months of ownership. I probably used it 10 times.
The symptoms:
When I power it on (with fresh alkaline batteries):
1) the laser dot blips on for a split second and then remains off
2) The display shows 0' 0" and doesn't change values
3) The "real time measurement" icon flashes but no measurements are made
4) After 10 seconds, the display goes blank but the backlight remains on
5) Pressing buttons will cause a beep but the buttons otherwise don't do anything, whether momentary presses or holding. Nothing changes.

This matches exactly the behavior reported by other reviewers here. I expected better longevity from the Bosch brand.

Worked fine until it didn't

Unit failed after light use. Purchased because of Bosch's name and reputation. Used to measure rooms inside buildings. After light use, less than 24 time over a couple years, the unit failed. Screen flashes all icons after turning on with fresh batteries. Unit stored in office desk drawer and not abused. Attempted to upload image of unit showing the condition is like new and all icons 'on'. However web form would not accept my 42k jpg file. I contacted Bosch customer support hoping maybe they acknowledge there is a design defect and had a replacement program. Was told nothing could be done as it was out of warranty. Based on the number of negating similar reviews it seems Bosch has some design defects in their laser measurement tools.

Failed

This unit is 2 years old and only used a few times. Used it the other day and made a number of measurement and hung it up on the wall. Got it down today and it partially initializes; display illuminates, laser flases for 1 second the continuous measurement icon flashes, all buttons frozen, displays 0'-0" and after 10 s is shuts down. Not a battery issue. This is a quality issue (manufactured 5/21)

Problem initializing

This unit worked fairly well for several months, albeit with many small annoyances. I did not use it for several months and then pulled it out the other day to take some measurements. It is now defective. The original batteries are still at full voltage. The unit turns on but there is no laser beam. If I press the button to take a measurement the red laser will flash briefly, the unit will beep and the screen will show 0' 0". It will freeze for a while and then the numbers will disappear. I cannot turn the unit off, although it will turn off automatically.

This was a Christmas gift from my wife and she is even more disappointed than I am in the product quality (or lack therof).

Died at just over a year, light duty home use only
